About this Cook
I am 39 years old and have been married 17 years. I have three children and we live very busy lives. All of my kids are in travel sports clubs, so we are constantly running. After paying for all of things our kids need, we don't usually have money leftover for going out to eat. I love to try to imitate any great dishes we've had in restaurants. The downside to this is that my husband tells me my cooking is better than going out to eat, so when I do need a break from cooking, it's difficult to get him to take me out!
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook steaks and seafood. I also love to cook pasta and try to find ways to cook tasty meals that are low in cholesterol because of my husbands high cholesterol. I love to make desserts also. I will make anything from chocolate chip cookies to creme brulee. I have a recipe for a raspberry upside down cake that is phenomenal.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Probably my favorite cooking tradition is when I bake Christmas cookies. My whole family looks forward to this event. It usually takes me a whole week to bake, but it is well worth the time and effort. I try to give everyone I know Christmas cookies. My 12 year old daughter loves to bake cookies with me.
My cooking triumphs
Serving my crab-stuffed filet mignon and shrimp alfredo to the coaches and wives of my sons baseball team and they all loved it. I served 12 people and cooked 2 wonderful dishes with sides and some great appetizers and dessert. Everything came out perfect.
My cooking tragedies
The first real recipe I ever tried when first married,I ruined. It was a recipe for chicken dipped in onion soup mix, then baked in the oven. Well, I actually COOKED the soup first in a pan on the stove and then tried dipping the chicken in the cooked broth. I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't stick! Needless to say, we didn't eat that chicken, and my husband and I laughed about it for years and still do.
