Turkey Breast Florentine

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2009
5 stars for a great idea! I tweak this to our own tastes. I make a savory stuffing with breadcrumbs and dried cranberries to stuff the roll. I like this even better than a traditional stuffed turkey at holiday time! Also, in a pinch, I have also used two large whole chicken breasts. Just make sure you butterfly and pound them if necessary. Hope you enjoy this like we do!

Easiest Eggplant

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2009
TERRIBLE...really this is the first time I have had to rate a recipe so low. So dissapointed in this recipe and we LOVE eggplants! Fried or broiled eggplants is the only way to go, IMO. It might be salvageable in an eggplant parmesan, but is an embarrasment to the eggplant to serve as is!

Mom's Chicken Cacciatore

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2008
Not too shabby! I'll add my two cents...the other reviewers are right, the secret (in most other recipies too) is in the browning. Dredging the chicken in seasoned flour and browning well really enhances the taste and helps to thicken the sauce later. I added some chili pepper and rosemary to fry with the onions for our liking and threw in a zuccini I had hanging around. Also, try a can of crushed tomatoes next time. It gives it more of a saucy consistency like you cooked it for hours. Enjoy AllRecipers!

Donair

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2008
kudos for idea!! I was so excited to try this but it really didn't do justice to the donairs out here in BC (IMO). There are some adjustments to be made as other reviewers have noted. The sauce seems particularly odd to me, the taste just didn't sit well with me and I tried everything to make it taste better! I think plain yogurt or taziki would be better. The meat needs alot more spice and herbs. However, this recipe gave me the new idea to make my own 'lunch meat' with homemade meatloaf that I can freeze in individual slices, Thanks!

Green Bean Curry

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2008
I used this more for inspiration...so I don't know if I have a right to rate it. I added chicken for the carnavore hubby and some shredded coconut and the whole can of c.milk to make more sauce - oh and a handful of dried apricots. Was sooo yummy...thanks for the headstart on my inspiration for dinner!

easy enough to put together if you have the time and the presentation was fabulous.

Stovetop Yankee Pot Roast

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2007
I thought this was great! Much faster than putting it in a crockpot and just as tasty. I added bay leaves and dried onion flakes and I didn't add the veggies until the last 45min of cooking time - I thought they would be mush after a couple hours.

Raspberry Almond Coffeecake

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2007
oooo, this is good. Fresh raspberries with almonds is delish, and only 6gm of fat my friends! I added a dash of cinnamon to the batter and a spash of almond extract to the berries and chopped whole almonds to give more of a crunch. Double if you wish as others suggest; but this fit perfectly in a loaf pan for me.

Stuffed Turkey Roll

Reviewed: May 7, 2007
Wow, what a great recpie idea Patricia! It's like thanksgiving dinner without the bird. I too used plain whole wheat bread crumbs and seasoned them myself. I made my own stuffing, including dried cranberries. Then made a gravy to pour on the spiral slices. Serve with mash potatoes and you have turkey dinner with minimal work!

I made the nests with the usual rice-crispy square recpipe with added coconut and green coloring - much more appetising than a hunk of coconut and ohhh so cute!

Lamb Braised with Quince (Kidonato)

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2007
This is good...it is very close to a persian dish, a koresh with lamb and quince. Add a little lime juice and balsamic vinegar to compliment the quince. Quince is considered an aphrodisiac...so enjoy!

Angel Icing

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2007
Divine on Angel food cake! Tastes very much like marshmellows. I added coconut extract and sprinkled toasted coconut on top of my cake. Light and fluffy...and no fat! As for the left over yokes, save them to glaze homemade bread or pastries before baking.

California Italian Wedding Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2007
Fast & impressive! The lemon added a nice dimension to the soup. I will recommend only two things...add caraway to your meatballs (the secret ingrediant in italian sausage) and secondly, add a little onion and garlic to your broth. Oh...and use acini de pepe noodles instead of orzo, you wouldn't think it but, it makes a big difference!

Seriously good and easy. Everybody's got this stuff in their pantry. I didn't bother with the oven, I just cooked it on the stovetop. Topped it with shedded cheese, sour cream and guaccomole - ole!

Beef Burgundy I

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2007
Because so many of you said this didn't have enough flavor I added extra beef broth (dry), onion flakes, 2 bay leaves and extra thyme - oh and don't forget garlic! When I added the onions and mushrooms I found a few tablespoons of balsamic vinegar made a great improvement - just the right fruity sweetness and tartness to go with the savory. Play with this recipe, it's a good base!

Apple Stuffed Chicken Breast

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2007
A nice little elegant meal. The other reviewers are right, make sure to brown your chicken well and there will be no issues with weird purple chicken and it will taste better. Choose tart apples that will hold their shape, like a granny smith. Butterfly and pound your chicken to allow more surface area for more yummy filling. The cheese is more of a 'glue' for the stuffing and I would recomend playing with the spices, such as some pepper, sage, savory thyme and a dash of allspice to compliment the apples. The gravy bennifits from stock instead of water and any leftover stuffing with some apple chunks. Also, an alternative to serving it as a big chicken lump on a plate, cut it into slices to show off the filling and pour gravy over top. Bon Appetite!

The Rebbetzin Chef's Persian Walnut Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2006
I made a colassal mess of my kitchen. This recipe looked so simple and good. Cookie bakers, heed my experience... I ground too many walnuts, so I added extra liquids - I must have added too much because when I took my cookies out of the oven there was one big cookie burnt on to my pan. So after playing with it a bit I found: heat the oven to 300 degrees; add extra nuts, at least 1/2 a cup and no extra liquids. You MUST line the pan with partchment or at least tin-foil! - I thought I could get away with just greasing the pan as with so many other recipies. And finaly cook for only 15 to 18 minutes. Whew! Pretty good cookie after I cleaned up the mess and corrected my mistakes.

Italian Wedding Soup I

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2006
yummm...talk about comfort food! Who doesn't love meatballs? And soup with meatballs - fabuloso! It's not quite a 5 star meal but a darn good regular family meal. That being said I did a few things different. I baked my meatballs a little first - I was too scared to just throw them in, I was sure I would stir the pot and end up with one big meatball stuck to the spoon. This also helped get rid of the excess fat. I fried some onions and celery in the soup pan then added the stock just because that's the way mamma always started a soup. Sheer yumminess will add to my box =) Oh...one more thing, I noticed some of you reviewers added wisked eggs to the soup and I figured what the heck and gave it a try...it ended up looking like little bits of shredded egg, kinda weird, what's your secret to the eggs??

Apple Pie II

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2006
okay...what I liked: got to taste the filling and adjust before putting in to pie. Didn't have to cook as long, thus pastry was golden instead of tan. What I didn't like: took much longer to prepare than a reg. apple pie and basicaly came out the same. Think I will just stick to the regular apple pie recipie, thanks anyways
