Aegean Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 6, 2011
I absolutely love hummus but did not care for it in this recipe. I feel it would have been much better without it. I suggest before mixing in the hummus, try a bite with and without to see which way you like it best.

Orange Chicken Kabobs

Can't wait to try this but one large garlic BULB, really? Seems like way too much. I think I'll use one large garlic CLOVE instead.

Root Beer Pork Chops

Reviewed: May 12, 2011
The glaze turned out good but I agree with another who said it didn't glaze the chop well. The chop was bland with just a hint of root beer flavor. Had I known I would have saved some, if not most, of the glaze for dipping the end product, kind of like an au jus. Or thicken it and use as a sauce. Preparing it as written was a big waste of time.

Chicken Creole with Chile Cream Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2010
This was good but not "wow" and I give this recipe 3.5 start. It was quick and easy though so that's a definite plus for busy nights! The dish was more bland than I thought it would be and if I made it again, I would add extra seasoning, sea salt, and at least, another teaspoon of lime juice. The one tsp. of lime juice was barely evident. I think chipotle peppers (pureed or finely chopped) would make a good subtsitute for the green chilies, especially if you like it spicy.

Easy Polenta with Tomato Sauce

Reviewed: May 13, 2010
Loved the taste and how quick and easy this was. The polenta had a cream of wheat-type texture when I poured it into the pan. It was a little runny when I first took it out of the oven but if you let it sit several minutes before cutting, it thickens up. P.S. Muir Glen's Fire Roasted Tomato pasta sauce is our family's favorite. I highly recommend it if you don't have time to make your own. Actually, it's better than my own. UPDATE: The second time I made this I decreased the milk and stock by 1/2 cup each. This turned out much better. The polenta was firm and could be cut into pieces (the longer it sits outside the oven, the firmer it gets). The parmesan flavor stood out a tad more too. I just can't get enough of this....YUM! The leftovers are just as good if not better.

Marzetti® Hawaiian Slaw

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2010
I substituted broccoli slaw for cabbage and craisons for raisons. Made it once with slivered almonds and once with pecans - both were great. I used Marzetti's LITE, hesitantly, but it didn't matter; this was delicious. And considering it took less than five minutes to throw together, I feel this is worthy of five stars.

Heavenly Potatoes and Ham

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2010
This was very good, however, I ommitted the 1/2 cup butter in the casserole. It is rich enough, fattening enough, and tasty enough without the added grease. I really don't understand why anyone would add it unless their goal is to clog their arteries as much as possible. As for the topping, I mixed 2 tbsp. melted butter with 1/2 cup plain bread crumbs.

Classic Old Fashioned

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2010
This is my favorite drink in the winter except I substitute marachino cherry juice for the simple syrup and brandy for the whiskey. I also squeeze an orange wedge and add sour such as 50/50 or Squirt. Delicious.

Rosemary Chicken with Orange-Maple Glaze

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2009
This was very good. Due to the high cost of maple syrup, I substituted about half with honey. I also added a little cornstarch/water to thicken it.

Cod with Italian Crumb Topping

Reviewed: May 18, 2009
A very good recipe for crispy oven baked fish. I substituted Old Bay seasoning for the Italian and added a couple dashes of garlic salt. I took another reviewer's suggestion and cooked it at 375 for 30 minutes. It came out perfect.

Ultimate Grilled Cheese Sandwich

This was good but I was hoping the granny smith would give it a little more pop. The fruity taste was rather subtle. I may add some craisons next time. Otherwise, a very good sandwich.

Tartar Sauce I

Sorry but this didn't do it for me. It tasted too much like Miracle whip which I find awful. If you like a creamier, more mellow tasting tartar sauce, go elsewhere.

Silver's Savory Chicken and Broccoli Casserole

Reviewed: May 4, 2009
This was very good. It had a mild flavor which was fine with me. I'm just glad I found a good casserole recipe that doesn't call for any canned condensed soups! I did add about 1/3 cup mayo, as suggested by another reviewer, and decreased the milk a little. I also added some chopped bacon, shredded cheddar, and chicken bouillon to the sauce mix. I par-steamed fresh broccoli and I'm glad I did. The addition of slivered almonds on top was wonderful. If anything, I would add a few shakes of garlic salt next time to the sauce.

Garlic Cheese Chicken Rollups

This was absolutely delicious and easy! I used the Rondele brand. I never really cared for it much as a spread but it's GREAT as a filler for chicken.

My Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2009
I have to agree, combine the taste of this chili with its ease, it deserves 5 stars. IMO, some of the simplest recipes are also the best. The only thing I did differently was that I used two 24 oz. cans of stewed tomatoes instead of four 15 oz. cans, and added fresh oregano. Topped the bowls off with shredded cheddar, sour cream and crushed tortilla chips...mmmmm. I will also freeze some for chili cheese dip later on and for taco salads.

Steak Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2008
My husband and I really enjoyed this. I did, however, simmer the beef for a few hours to make it more tender and added a few shakes of herbs de provence. I also decided to add some steamed, chopped potatoes and carrots at the end which I'm glad I did. I made up some more gravy to add to the mixture as well. With these changes, it becomes a five star recipe, IMO.

Buffalo Chicken Dip

This is soooo good....so addicting. I didn't layer it...just threw it all together and nobody seemed turned off by the color. It was gone before I knew it. However, I think it tastes much better with tortilla chips than with the crackers.

Beef Stroganoff III

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2008
I was looking for a recipe that didn't use cream soups and this is the recipe I've been looking for! However, I substituted sirloin and fresh mushrooms. I think I'll leave out the mustard too next time. Just a personal preferance.
