Panzanella Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2009
I love Panzanella salad but this became absolutely ruined by using Balsamic vinegar. I am aggravated with myself for not seeing that. Wayyyyyyyyyyyy too sweet. Plus with the tomatoes, it becomes sweeter. Think [unlike I did, & use wine or cider vinegar instead]!

Three Bean Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2009
This is not something I make, but thought it might make a good foil for the quiche I was making & it did. It was addictive, delicious, but...........waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much sugar! Happy that I heard the other "too much sugar" comments, cutting mine to 1/3 cup [Splenda] & next time, will probably only add 1/4 cup. I am a sweetoholic. The submitter states that the recipe makes a lot, & to me, that really isn't true, so maybe the amount of beans was meant to have been tripled, or at least doubled.......I can't imagine this with all that sugar!

Very good. I halved the recipe, used 1/2 c. Splenda with 1/2 c.sugar and 1/2 c. "Can't Believe It's Not Butter sticks for our health reasons. I baked for 60 minutes @ 325 & poured into an 8"x4" foil loaf pan.

Simple Scones

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2009
Sorry, although these were very good, they are still not the best, and my quest goes on. The best you can get are sold at a local gourmet shop near me in Kenmore, NY......if I could get the recipe, I would. I have driven there just to get one.....9 miles away, they are that good and I usually get them plain. However, they come to the shop parbaked and finished in the shop so no recipe. I did make these as many others did, using a food processor, & also used currants. They were easy, & very good, but still not my favorite.....the local one's are like "butter, sugar, flour, dropped down from an English heaven" to me! I may however, try to make these with cream or buttermilk instead of sour cream next time....maybe that's the difference in taste.

Authentic German Potato Salad

Reviewed: May 23, 2009
I'm not sure how authentic this was. German potato salad cubed? This recipe was too sweet. The true version has more balanced tart/sweet taste as well as a creamier texture....this was way to dry. Not much flavor either. I have a rule of never deviating from the original recipe, but this one needs a lot of changes. Will look elsewhere for an authentic version.

Meatball Sandwich

DELICIOUS! ALL I DID WAS TO DOUBLE THE RECIPE. ACTUALLY, THIS IS THE SAME AS MY MEATBALLS, BUT I USUALLY USE THE BEEF/PORK/VEAL COMBO-----THIS TIME IT WAS ALL BEEF. WILL USE THE REMAINDER WITH PASTA. I APPRECIATE THE REMINDER THAT GUYS REALLY DO LOVE MEATBALL BOMBERS.....I JUST USUALLY JUST MAKE MEATBALLS TO GO WITH PASTA.

Fiesta Meatloaf

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2009
I HAVE TO ADMIT, WHEN I SAY THE WATER ADDITION, I WAS SKEPTICAL, BUT I GUESS I AM ALWAYS ON THE HUNT FOR A NEW TWIST ON THE MAN FAVORITE MEATLOAF. WELL, THIS IS IT! ABSOLUTELY SUPER DELICIOUS! MOIST, TENDER, & FLAVORFULL WITHOUT BEING OVERLY MEXICAN FLAVORED. I AS USUAL, DID NOT CHANGE A THING ON THE FIRST TRY. AND TO BE HONEST, I WILL NOT CHANGE A THING IN THE FUTURE....PERFECT COMBINATION. I DID USE A WOODEN SPATULA TO LIFT THE MEATLOAF OUT SINCE THERE WAS QUITE A BIT OF GREASE [I USUALLY MICROWAVE MY MEATLOAF, DRAIN THE GREASE, SLICE, & RETURN TO MICROWAVE WITH GRAVY ADDED] BUT ONCE YOU LIFT THE LOAF UP, THE GREASE IS LEFT BEHIND. WILL PROBABLY BECOME OUR NEW FAVORITE MEATLOAF! THANKS SAMSNANA!

GET YOUR FRANK'S OUT & GET READY TO SMILE.....THIS WAS SOOOOOOOO TOTALLY DELICIOUS, YET SO EASY! I NEVER CHANGE A RECIPE THE FIRST TIME, BUT I WAS OUT OF TOMATO SAUCE SO I SUBSTITUTED A CHOPPED FRESH TOMATO & IT WAS NIRVANA! WE ENJOYED THIS WITH FAYE'S "SALSA CHICKEN" & ALONG WITH THE HOT SAUCE WE HAD SOUR CREAM ON THE SIDE. WE DIDN'T SPEAK WHILE EATING IT WAS SO GOOD! THANKS AGAIN MOMMYTO2!

Newport Clam Chowder

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2008
THE WAY THE CLAMS WERE ADDED TO THIS RECIPE WAS A BIG DISSERVICE.....WHAT IS A QT. OF SHUCKED CLAMS TO MOST OF US? SO, I MADE THE CHOWDER EXACTLY AS WRITTEN HAVING HAD A LG. [49+ OUNCE] CAN OF CLAM BROTH IN MY PANTRY JUST WAITING FOR THAT LONG SOUGHT AFTER PERFECT NEW CREAMY NEW ENGLAND STYLE CLAM CHOWDER. AND I NOTICED MOST PEOPLE DIDN'T EVEN USE THE AMOUNT OF BROTH THE RECIPE ASKED FOR. THAT BROTH WAS WASTED DUE TO THE CLAM DESCRIPTION.....I GUESSED @ 2 CANS.....SHOULD HAVE USED MAYBE 4! ALSO, IT COULD HAVE USED MORE POTATOES, & MAYBE SOME SWEET RED PEPPER FOR A LITTLE PUNCH..... I GUESS I SHOULD HAVE SAVED THAT HUGE CAN OF BROTH FOR A BETTER RECIPE. SORRY BUT CAN'T SEE HOW THAT RECIPE WON AWARDS.....

Pineapple Chicken Delight

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2008
IF I COULD GIVE THIS 10 STARS I WOULD. AS THE KIDS SAY, OMG...THE BEST MEAL I HAVE MADE/EATEN IN AGES, & I'M AN AVID/EXPERT COOK! MY HUSBAND, WHO NEVER LIKES SWEET WITH SAVORY, PROBABLY COULD HAVE EATEN IT ALL...& I USED 8 SKINNED THOUGH BONE IN THIGHS [OUR FAVORITE]. I'M A LITTLE EMBARASSED TO ADMIT WE FINISHED IT ALL! SOOOOOOOOOO GOOD, REAL SOUTHERN COOKED COMFORT FOOD!!! JUST A NOTE: WE DON'T CARE FOR PEPPERS, & I HAD SEVERAL SHALLOTS, SO I PUT THEM IN. ALSO, LIKE OTHERS, THE THINLY SLICED POTATOES WEREN'T FULLY COOKED, SO I PUT THE LID ON FOR THE LAST HALF HOUR OF COOKING....TOTALLING 1-1/2HR. COOKING TIME [SINCE I USED DARK MEAT, & DOUBLED THE AMOUNT]. I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW THE SAUCE THICKENED AS WELL. APPARENTLY THE WORDS WRITTEN ON MY KITCHEN WALL ARE TRUE....COOKING IS LOVE MADE VISABLE! THANK-YOU JOY!

Very Berry Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2008
I gave this top honors.....mainly because anyone knows sweetener baked goods will never have the same crumb as sugar. But, these were absolutely delicious...moist, dense, flavorful. I never tweak a recipe the first time I make it, but I did add a few extra berries, & baked in Texas muffin tins/30 mins for 6 muffins & they were wonderful!

Mom's Texas Delight

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2007
THIS IS A NICE CHANGE WITH THE COCONUT PUDDING (I ADDED FLAKED COCONUT TO THE PUDDING TO ADD SOME PUNCH) BUT I HAVE BEEN MAKING THIS FOR YEARS WITH CHOCOLATE PUDDING & THE REAL NAME IS NOT "MOM'S TEXAS DELIGHT", IT IS SLUSH CAKE. IT WAS FAMOUS AROUND THE 70'S & WAS ORIGINALLY MADE WITH PISTACHIO INSTANT PUDDING----BUT MOST PEOPLE PREFERRED CHOCOLATE.

Sugar Free Sour Cream Linzer Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2007
I had high hopes for this recipe being it was low sugar. These were just ok. The taste was bland, & if it weren't for the raspberry spreadable fruit I used (raspberry St. Dalfour from France, sweetened with grape juice) they would be tasteless. I did use Splenda, & cut with 2" heart cookie cutters, & a mini heart for the middles. They're part of a Valentines gift for my hubby----hopes he likes them better than me.

Chocolate Oil Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2007
I AGREE THAT THIS CAKE WAS DELICIOUS.....NICE AND HEAVY WITH MOISTNESS, TASTING LIKE A VERY GOOD DEVILS FOOD. I BAKED IT IN A PINCH FOR MY HUSBAND'S BIRTHDAY TOMORROW, & FROSTED IT WITH STORE BOUGHT CREAM CHEESE FROSTING I HAD ON HAND. WE BOTH LOVED IT & HAD TO EAT SOME TONIGHT. I DID BAKE IT IN A DEEP HEART SHAPED SILICONE PAN I BOUGHT @ TARGET....BAKED FOR 55 MINS.-----MAKE SURE YOU SPRAY WITH PAM SO IT DOESN'T STICK! THANKS KRISTI FOR AN QUICK, EASY, LITTLE CLEAN-UP DELICIOUS CAKE WHICH I WILL NOW BE MY STANDARD!
