Cheese Grits

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2009
In answer to the question about making this dish ahead of time, yes, you can. I made it the night before and cooked at 350 degrees for 30 minutes, then refrigerated it. The next morning I warmed it (covered with foil) for about 30 minutes at 350 degrees and it came out great. I haven't tried freezing it. I have made this both with processed cheese and sharp cheddar. I think you could use any hard cheese that suits your taste.

Smoky Chicken Spread

This was even better than I expected; easy to make and my guests loved it! I used the breast meat of a rotisserie chicken to make it moist. I will make this often!

Baby BLT

Not hard to make, but a little time-consuming. However, when you want to impress people, Baby BLT's look and taste great! But for a football game, I would probably make BLT dip with pita chips.

Hot Banana Salsa

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2008
Wow, everybody loved this. I did get wimpy and substituted a jalapeno pepper for the habanero and it was just the right amount of hot for me, although I am sure it is excellent with the habanero. I made it ahead and added bananas just before serving. Everyone loved the fresh taste and interesting combination of flavors! Thanks!

Best-Ever Texas Caviar

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2008
This is really good and everyone loves it! The first time I made this I left out the cilantro because one of the guests hates it, but I just made it with the cilantro and it was even better. Only change I made was to use 1/4 cup lime juice and 1/4 cup rice vinegar instead of the 1/2 cup rice vinegar, mainly because I really like lime.

Baked Ziti I

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2008
This was a huge success! My husband, who hates leftovers, couldn't wait to have some leftover ziti the next day. He and his friend liked it much better than my prior recipe (which uses ricotta). Also, I only used half of the sour cream, because my husband hates the stuff and happened to walk in as I was putting the second layer together. (I had to hide the carton so he wouldn't know.) Next time I will use the full amount.

Four Cheese Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2006
Loved it! I must have tried a dozen mac and cheese recipes, but will make this from now on. I took the advice of others and added a teaspoon of garlic salt; also, I used 2 eggs because I like a firmer mac and cheese casserole. I used a whole 8 oz. package of macaroni and it was perfect. Maybe there was a typo error, and the writer meant to use 8 ounces of macaroni (1/2 of a 1 pound package.)

Chocolate Chip Cheese Ball

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2005
this recipe is great. However, some people are confused by cookies being served with what looks like a regular cheese ball. Try rolling the ball in a mixture of pecans and mini chocolate chips to identify it as a sweet cheese ball. I serve with chocolate wafers and gingersnaps.

Peanut Butter Vegetable Chicken Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2004
I served this at my annual "Soup Dinner" and it was a hit! I did make some changes, only to make it a lower carb dish. I used mushrooms, zucchini, and canned tomatoes for the vegetables. I think you can use whatever vegetables you like because the broth is very rich on its own. Great recipe!

My Grandmother used to make these when I was a kid - my favorites! She substituted cashew nuts for the mini-marshmallows. Yummy!

Drunk Dogs

This is the only cocktail weinie recipe that I really like. I got it about 20 years ago from (get this) "The White Trash Cookbook," which was written partly as a joke, and partly because it had some good recipes.

Jamie's Minestrone

We loved this; the first time I made it for a church supper and there were no leftovers! Second time I made it for friends for lunch and they liked the soup very much. Thankfully, the second time I had enough leftovers to enjoy for a couple of days!
