About this Cook
When I got married it brought a new dimension of cooking challenges. I do most of the cooking, (my husband also enjoys cooking and cooks at least once a week) and I quickly realized the my list of meals I am comfortable making is quite short. So I've been pulling recipes from here and magazines and family. I come from a long line of good cooks (male and female alike) so I've been able to tap into a bit of that knowledge.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking!! I'm a good cook but baking has always been easy for me. Other than that I enjoy stir fry and crock pot recipes. My husband and I work full time so anything that saves us time is great.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have so many memories of my grandmother cooking, especially around the holidays. For the whole month of December she always had spritz cookies in a basket in the kitchen. She has alzheimer's now and has not been able to cook for quite some time but I have inherited her cookie press so I'm continuing the tradition.
My cooking triumphs
I've had many cooking triumphs but one that comes to mind was my first St. Patty's Day (on my own) and I made corned beef boiled in Guinness. I can't remember but I may have gotten the recipe from this site.
My cooking tragedies
I decided to make sloppy joes in my crock pot. The recipe called for browning the meat first, well I browned it a little too much and when we ate later it was just too well done.

Amish Breakfast Casserole
I really liked this recipe. Brought it to a brunch and it was enjoyed by all. I followed some suggestions and added more eggs (10 in total) and shredded my own potatoes (not much work considering the savings, it was 2 large potatoes). I used veggie breakfast sausages and would probably add a little salt if making it vegetarian but if using bacon, ham or meat sausage it would be fine. I assembled the night before and baked in the AM, next time I would bake at night and just warm in the oven in the AM.

Holiday Punch I
This was great. I made it with lemonade and with pineapple juice and I prefer the pineapple juice. When made with 100% juice pineapple, cranberry and orange juice it has much less sugar. I floated cranberries instead of the cherries. Made an ice ring with cranberries and mint leave, it looked very festive and tasted wonderful!!

Vanilla Crepes
This is a great basic crepe recipe. It is a little more thick than a crepe you would get in France or at a French bistro but its easy and yummy!! I also used 3 whole eggs and went a little scant on the flour. I cooked them in a large skillet because we don't have a crepe pan.
