About this Cook
I cook for my family of four, I am active in our church and enjoy quilting and making things for my home. Lately I have been learning to cook wild game and make my own sausage - try it! Not too difficult if you have a grinder, and you'll never go back to store bought!
My favorite things to cook
Bread
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mom taught me how to use cuts of meat to their maximum potential!
My cooking triumphs
A 'Tea Ring' that involved 16 cups of flour. The biggest part of this triumph was find a bowl large enough and discovering cake yeast. (You'll never go back!) Finally succeeding at making homemade fudge, a nemesis of mine for over 20 years! Learning to cook the wild game my husband brings home! Making my own sausage - much tastier, much cheaper, and a good deal less anxiety about what you're really eating.
My cooking tragedies
Making cookies and accidentally using sugar in place of the flour (I was 12, and apparently absentminded). The cookies spread all over the baking sheet and carmelized - worst mess ever! Age 15 - Making lemon chicken, and continually replacing the lemon juice that was 'disappearing'. Turned our faces inside out. Age 26 - Burning the dickens out of a large roast I had intended to feed my family at least two meals on. We went out. Age 25 - Refried bean casserole from BC cookbook. Yuck - we were dirt poor and out of food and I still threw it out!

Quinoa and Black Beans
Absolutely delicous, easy and extremely versatile. Since I discovered a tomato allergy, I have really missed having corn chips and salsa - this makes an excellent salsa substitute. It made a great side dish, and with any added meat, it makes a wonderful meal. Thank you thank you thank you. Oh, I used red Quinoa for the salsa, which made it darker.

Bacon Mustard Pork Roast with Stuffed Mushroom Caps
I was very disappointed. I don't know what I did wrong, if anything - seemed pretty simple, bacon, mushrooms, mustard, pork. Gotta say I LOVED the idea of slathering my pork in pork. But I didn't care for it. I used less than half the called-for mustard and it was still too mustardy. The mushrooms weren't good, either. Sad.

Cranberry Muffins
They didn't rise, were too tart, and not sweet enough even though I added an extra 2 T of sugar. Sure wish I'd read the other reviews. I don't know what the rising problem is all about, there is a Tablespoon of baking powder in here after all! One would think it would be enough! But, definitely more sugar, like 3/4 cup might do the trick. Really, it didn't seem like these should turn out as bad as they did. I love the flavor combination, but these just didn't work.
