Toasted Garlic Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2012
This was pretty good, but I prefer the Garlic Bread Fantastique recipe from this site. I think it has to do with the type of bread and cheese that is used on that one. But hubby prefers this one so we'll probably alternate between the two.

Caramelized Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2012
Finger licking good! I only used about 1 1/2 T of peanut butter and the flavor was still dominant so I added a little more soy sauce and that helped. It also wouldn't thicken up for me very much so I took the juices out of the pan, added a little cornstarch and cook it til it thickened, then threw it back in the pan with the wings and cranked up the heat until it reduced a bit. When I took them out of the pan the sauce stuck pretty well. The meat is so tender and has great flavor!

Garlic Bread Fantastique

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2012
This is great! The only thing I did different because it's all I had was to use a 4 cheese blend instead of straight parmesan. It was yummy, and I'm sure it would have been just as good with parm. Really easy to make and a nice change from regular garlic bread that's just made with butter and garlic.

Banana Upside-Down Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2012
This is deeelicious! I couldn't find banana cake mix so I used a yellow mix and added a mashed banana to it. I love butter/sugar/pecan topping so I decided to double it, but it made it a little too sweet, so next time I'll only do 1 1/2 x's the butter/sugar but double the nuts. Lastly, I wanted one big cake so I just used a 9x13 pan and baked it for 40 minutes. Turned out onto a platter as soon as it came out and there was no sticking and it looked very pretty. I ate a piece warm and the bananas just melt in your mouth. So good!

Shredded Tri-Tip for Tacos in the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2012
I could tell this would be spicy so I halved each of the peppers, but even with that modification, 2 bites in and I felt like I was gonna choke. It was almost like someone took a Q-tip and swabbed the back of my throat with cayenne. I admit I'm not a big fan of spicy dishes (I like bold flavor, not super spice), but I honestly thought with my modifications it would turn out okay. I don't know how anyone could eat this dish with full amount of peppers. The one star is for the fact that it is simple to make.

Banana Bars

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2012
I can't rate the cake itself because I'm giving it to my parents, but I can tell you that it was easy to make, it smells wonderful and it looks beautiful in the pan! I used a 7x11 pan so it is a little thicker and I also added an extra banana and the last egg I had in the refrigerator to use it up. I did taste the frosting and it's sweet, but isn't frosting supposed to be? But since I'm not a frosting lover I only used about 1/2 of it. It has wonderful banana flavor though. I am going to let a batch of bananas turn this weekend so that I can make it again, this time for us, and will come back to rate the cake!

Chicken Wings Fricassee

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2012
This was really good, but it is missing something and I can't quite put my finger on it. I didn't add the full amount of salt, but it seemed salty enough to me so I don't think that was it. It's easy to make and smells wonderful as it's cooking, so I will definitely make it again and just get creative to try and bring out the flavor.

Pork Chop Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2012
This was pretty good. It looks and smells delicious, but it was a little too spicy for me. Not over the top, just too much for my taste. I ended up adding another cup each of water and broth and that did the trick. The only thing I didn't add was broccoli because I didn't have any. I will definitely make it again but with the added liquids.

One-Pan Taco Dinner

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2012
I made this as written and served it in lettuce bowls and a dollop of sour cream, and while it was very good I was surprised it that was a little bland. I think it has to do with the amount of rice in the dish. But it's quick and easy and to make so I will definitely make it again and will add more seasonings, and if making it just for myself I'll add some corn (hubby doesn't like it).

K-Dub's Alfredo Ravioli Bake

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2012
Very good, very simple to make, and very rich! I definitely wouldn't make this on a regular basis. Minor changes I would make are to reduce the amount of italian seasoning a bit. I would also salt/pepper the chicken instead of the entire dish. And last but not least I would change the type of ravioli. I like cheese raviolis but don't love them, but this recipe is versatile so you could use just about any type.

Quick and Easy Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2012
I am not a brownie lover but my husband is so I made these for him. Per other reviews, I only used 1 cup of flour because I know he likes more of a dense brownie, and he said they were very good but still too cakey. I thought they were fine, but I could see if you added the additional 1/2 cup they would be. So 4 stars for him, and 5 for me. They are so easy to make, and I always have all of the ingredients on hand.

Booyah Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2012
This is packed full of flavor. Really good with crusty french bread. The only thing I changed based on personal preference was I only used 1/4 t crushed red pepper. For our taste that was plenty of heat. I think the only thing I might change next time is to use fresh rosemary. With the dried, I occasionally felt like I was chewing on a splinter of wood.

Boardwalk Quality Maple Walnut Fudge

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2012
This stuff rocks! It's so smooth and creamy. The only thing I did differently is to add an extra small splash of the extract. It probably would have been fine as written but I love maple flavor so I added more for my personal taste. I also toasted the walnuts for a few minutes in the oven as another reviewer suggested. I am now going to take this same recipe and use milk chocolate chips and vanilla extract to make chocolate fudge too!

Fruit Salad

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2011
This was good but sweet. I think next time I make it it will be for a dessert instead of a side dish. I didn't add the nuts because a guest I had over can't eat them, but I'm sure that it would have tasted even better with them.

Excellent!! These are so light and flavorful! I've never made shortbread before and after this recipe I don't know why because it was so easy. Will definitely make again!

Aunt Teen's Creamy Chocolate Fudge

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2011
I don't know what might have gone wrong with this recipe. I made it EXACTLY as stated, waiting until full boil, stirring constantly after that for 5 minutes, etc. and it still came out dry when I went to put it into the pan. I wasn't even able to add the nuts because I couldn't stir it after I added the chips because it was so stiff. Will attempt to make it one more time and see if it turns out.

Buckeye Balls II

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2011
These came out pretty good, but even after only adding 3 cups sugar and adding in more peanut butter, the dough was a little crumbly. I was able to roll them up okay though. I put them in the freezer for about an hour, then dipped them in the chocolate, completely covering them, like truffles, instead of having the top show. The flavor is pretty good, but I almost think it needs a little more sugar, but if I would have added more I don't think they would have rolled up nicely. I might make again and play around with the recipe some more.

Barley Turkey Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2011
This is good. I made it exactly as stated, but it took about 1 1/2 hours for the barley to be completely cooked. I know it should be a little al dente, but even after an hour it was still pretty hard. The overall flavor is good though so I might make it again.

Brickle Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2011
These were good. They are really easy to make and have a nice light texture to them, but they are very sweet...almost too sweet for my personal taste. Also, I have never seen a 9oz. box of cake mix, so I measured out 9oz. on a food scale and will just use the rest for cupcakes.

Turkey Pot Pie I

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2011
My first attempt at a pot pie was a success! Deelicious! The only thing I did differently was to add about 1/2 cup of homemade turkey gravy since I had it in the fridge and wanted to use it up. The next time I make this I will add more turkey since my potato/turkey ratio was off a bit. Really great flavor, loved it!
