I love to entertain but don't know enough to stop and slow down keeping things simple. I love big family get togethers and enjoy being the hostess. I enjoy anything creative like painting, cooking and gardening. We have become vegetarians since joining this site, so some of the recipes I have submitted in the past that contained meat of seafood can very easily be substituted with vegetarian friendly options like portabello mushrooms, tofu, "veggie-chicken or beef" etc...
My favorite things to cook
My husband and I have been vegetarians since 2006 and are loving the benefits of our new found life. Cooking vegetarian is way more fun too! There is so much more colour to our plates and way more option for variety than we had expected! I encourage everyone to take a one week pledge to go veg...you'll be surprised at how satisfied you are at meal time!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Good ol' home cookin' is how we like it...not a lot of take out or stuff like that. We love a good casserole and things like scalloped potatoes. I tend to put a spin on our old family favorites by tweaking recipes. I'm always adding spices or garlic for more kick and flavour. I rarely follow a recipe and tend to just go by what's on hand.
My cooking triumphs
Whenever we have an event I go overboard and have to overdo everything. If it's something creative I will try my best to do it myself and make it perfect (even if it kills me) rather than hire someone else. When I hosted a baby shower I refused to order a cake. I taught myself how to do cake decorating! I bought all the piping bags etc... so that I could complete the job and voila...2 beautiful cakes! Unfortunatley they were so beautiful that nobody wanted to cut into them! But I had a lot of fun making them though.
