I ended up not making this recipe at all, sort of, but I'm rating it high for the inspiration. I live in Peru, and there aren't flavored rice mixes available here, so I made regular rice in my rice cooker with garlic and chicken bouillon cubes. I only had 1 cup of sour cream, but I did have turkey gravy mix.. so I made a cup of turkey gravy and mixed that with the sour cream. I wanted to make it a one dish meal, so I stirred in some cooked peas and carrots. I also didn't have chow mein noodles, but I did have french fried string potatoes that I put on top. I was really surprised when my kids loved it! Thanks for giving me a great basic recipe to work with. :)

I know a lot of people are discouraged by the amount of 'pre-cooking' that takes place in this recipe, but I have to say I really appreciate finding a recipe that doesn't use canned chicken and a can of cream of something soup. I live in Peru, and convenience items like canned food are difficult, sometimes impossible, to find. So thanks for a recipe that let me make everything from scratch!

I love this recipe - there's so much you can do to change it up! Stir in raisins, any kind of nut, add butterscotch or peanut butter chips - so many variations. I've been making it a few years now, and it never fails me.

I added a little rum, and used pumpkin pie spice in place of nutmeg - it was very good for quick and easy. If you want it thicker, substitute heavy cream for half the milk. Or, separate the eggs, and beat the whites to stiff peaks, then fold in to the rest of the ingredients.

I made this today for the first time - Holy cow! was it good! No kids at home this week, so didn't feel like cooking a full meal - and I had a bag of dried lentils sitting around. I left out the celery, which I don't like, and the oregano and spinach, which I was out of. I also didn't have any canned tomatoes. So I peeled and de-seeded 4 tomatoes, chopped in large pcs and threw that in. I also added a couple tablespoons of tomato paste at the end of cooking to give it a bit more heartiness. ALSO - I sliced up chorizo that I had in 1/2 slices and sauteed that up with the onions and carrots. My husband was suspicious of it when he came home from work, but when I served it up over a big bowl of rice, he loved it. I think even the kids will eat it up. I'll most definitely be making this again.

I've been using this recipe for a couple years now, and it's my family's favorite salad dressing. I use key limes instead of lemon, and garlic instead of garlic salt. Sometimes I substitute dill for the garlic. Cheaper and tastier than most bottled dressings. For a dip, I substitute sour cream or plain yogurt for the milk.

This is an excellent basic recipe. You can switch out the fruit for peaches, papaya, mango - or any combination you like. I usually cut up enough fruit for the week, then freeze it in individual serving bags. Makes it quick and easy in the morning to make breakfast smoothies to send my kids off to school. (I throw in a little wheat germ and protein powder. )

I made a couple changes - I used Adobo seasoning instead of plain salt, added extra black pepper on each layer and also some Amer. cheese torn into strips. I blended the milk and flour and poured it over everything before baking. Also, I used a deep round casserole instead of a baking dish. This was the first time I ever tried scalloped potatoes from scratch - came out much better than I expected. My gas oven is having an issue of not heating well, and I couldn't get it over 350 degrees, but i increased the cooking time and it came out perfect. Everybody loved it.

This recipe sooooo rocks!!!! I am living in Peru, and try to cook different "American" dishes with ingrediants I can find here, to accustom my 2 stepsons to the different food. Sometimes its a success, other times, not so much...but this was a definate keeper. The whole family loved it, even my older son who doesn't care for apples. I notice some reviewers had too chewy or too hard topping, mine came out just perfect for me. Next time, I probably will follow advice and sprinkle cinnamon over the apples before i put on the topping. Thanks for such a kickin' recipe!!

Quick, simple, and really delicious. I substituted instant coconut cream pudding for the vanilla, and sprinkled shredded coconut on top. Yum!!!

This was a really good and easy recipe for salmon patties. I did add about a quarter cup of the broth, but i like my patties very moist. I also put in some adobo seasoning for a little extra flavor.

This was a really delicious pie. It didn't set quite as firm as I'd hoped, I might cut the lime juice to 1/3 cup next time.

I started making this recipe last Christmas, and its been a hit every single time. I made one for a Superbowl party, and it went so fast, that for the Memorial day party, I'm making 2! I also increased the milk a little. I have at other times combined the pudding mixture with the cheesecake mixture, to make a "chocolate cheesecake", and I use different toppings, like crushed pecans or chocolate morsels. When I'm in a hurry, a store bought graham cracker or oreo cookie crust works just as well. Thanks for this recipe! Everyone asks for it, and its like I've got my own "specialty" now!
