About this Cook
I'm a mom and wife and have been cooking since elementary school! I started cooking "hole in ones" (buttered bread with an egg in the middle) and worked up to such things as bbq chicken, meatloaf, waffles by the end of high school. Now, I seem to cook more diverse foods trying to get my kids to eat a variety veggies and fresh fish, but always have time for some comfort food such as my Mama's Chicken and Dumplings to a good pot of soup.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy cooking for others and especially love learning about US regional cuisines, my favorite right now being "low country cooking." I love to grill all things; meats and vegies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Weekend breakfasts seem to be our family time. It usually consists of homemade waffles, eggs, and/or chipped beef gravy often made by my kids. The kids are becoming more independent in the kitchen and following recipes. I love the tradition of working together to make a special meal. My daughter's favorite thing to help make is mashed potatoes...she'll even wash the potatoes for me!!
My cooking triumphs
I have to say that finding and making a recipe that comes close to my Mama's Chicken and Dumplings was my most recent triumph. I'm also proud that I have made a large variety of soups over the past couple of years with my most successful being a Southwestern chicken and sausage soup. Everyone loves it and it's not loaded with fat as I use turkey sausage.
My cooking tragedies
There have been too many to mention but the most recent is when I doubled a cake recipe and only used enough pans for a single recipe. The batter spilled over into the oven and smoke was streaming out of the oven and filled the house!!! For the next few days, every time I turned on the oven, it smelled like burnt cake! Worst of all, I had to BUY a birthday cake for my daughter!

Snowballs
Very good and very easy recipe. I use a small ice cream scoop to make them faster and uniform. You must chill the dough in order to keep the ball shape, but worst case, they flatten a little and are still delish! Let cool a bit before rolling in powdered sugar. Thanks!

Banana Banana Bread
This is a great recipe and very easy. I added mini chocolate chips and a tsp. of vanilla cuz that's my taste. Came out moist and very tasty. Thanks!

Cucumber and Blue Cheese Salad
I liked this recipe because it was made with simple ingredients and made a lot fast. It is crisp and cool. I added olive oil and salt and pepper which almost completed it. I think it still needs fresh chives or flat leaf parsley. With that said, it devoured at a cookout and seemed liked by all.
