I'm a pleasantly plump mother, wife and .. *gasp* nearly 30! When I'm not working, I can generally be found in the kitchen trying something new or in the loungeroom, eating something new whilst watching whatever television series that has caught my fancy this week.
Some of my fondest memories are of helping my great grandmother in the kitchen as a child. I still can't replicate her fried apple pie, but find solice in the fact that everyone in my family has also tried and have been met with failure haha. Coming out of the kitchen covered in flour from making biscuits, cooking up a pile of bacon to go with our grits .. whatever she felt like on the day. People would come from miles around if they heard grandma had been cooking - especially for her fried apple pies!
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook are probably, not cooked at all. I enjoy doing what we call "pickies" on the weekends. A large variety of appetizers, from biscuits and dips, to cheeses, Italian meats chicken wings and kind of everything in between. Then we just sit down and graze for the afternoon. My family enjoys these days heaps, so I do too.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I don't have any, yet, but will make some :)
My cooking triumphs
My mother-in-law gave me a recipe from my hubby's childhood - one of his favorites. I was super nervous about making it because well, surely I'd screw it up. I decided to make a few changes so that if it failed, I could fall back on that as a reason. Well, lucky for me, he said its the best he's ever had and has asked for it about once a fortnight since :)
My cooking tragedies
Baking bread. I've tried numerous times to get a decent sourdough starter going and it always falls flat (the bread, not the starter, but I'm assuming its the starter's fault lol). I've fed the starter, let it breath .. heck, I even named it! It never fails though to umm, fail. *shrugs* Lucky for me we have a good bakery near by :)
