About this Cook
Retired high school media specialist with hubby, four children, and six grandchildren. Retired to beautiful Lake of the Ozarks
My favorite things to cook
Love to cook desserts, pasta, seafood, salads, breads, and soups.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mike's fudge at Christmas, Aunt Ethel's ice box cake Christmas Eve, Darcey's pasta salad in the summer. Used to have herb beds, fruit trees, and huge garden so my cooking was fresh
My cooking triumphs
Canned brandied fruit cocktail from my own fruit trees. Al Brown's Lasagna, a tomatoless lasagna recipe from Better Homes & Gardens magazine in the late '70's, I think. All pies made from scratch.
My cooking tragedies
My first runny butterscotch pie with in-laws in attendence. The spicy grits and shrimp recipe I served to friends two weeks ago from allrecipes.com!

George Washington's Birthday Cherry Cake
Neither my husband nor I liked this cake. I followed the recipe, didn't change or add. Served it to two different sets of friends. The 2nd couple are closer friends and they both said put in some coconut and you have a fruit cake. Bottom line, it was too heavy and not enough cherry flavor.

Raspberry Vinaigrette Dressing
I would like to add, if using raspberry jam or jelly, use the blender! This recipe is only as good as it is shaken, I learned hard way and had my oil seperate even after shaking it a lot. I gave it 5 stars because I modified it and would not be fair to rate it lower as I loved the flavor. My mistake in not using the raspberry vinegar

Unbelievable Chicken
This IS our favorite chicken recipe of all time. I fixed it for a bridge luncheon and only had time to marinate for 4 hours and it was awesome. Fixed it again a few days ago and marinated it overnight and baked it at 350 for 45 minutes and everyone said it was the best ever, even my picky grandson. Couldn't grill it either time as a wren built her nest in our grill and we had to wait for the four babies to fly! I would recommend NO changes. Thank you so much for making me such a success! Jan
