Fresh Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2009
I haven't made this recipe yet, but it sounds delicious and I will make it when I go to the store for brocolli. Here's something that helps me. I cut the raw bacon into small pieces with scissors before I fry it. Doing it like that you get nice crunchy small pieces instead of crumbling it after where the pieces are different sizes and not so crunchy.

Really good and quick to make. You should bypass all those boxed rice dishes and this one yourself.

Strawberry Cake from Scratch

Reviewed: May 18, 2009
This may be the best cake I've ever made. I did a couple of things different. I used buttermilk in place of regular milk. It's strawberry season here so I used fresh strawberries instead of frozen. I made a fresh strawberry filling for the cake and I used the frosting recipe from here to frost it. It's the cream cheese/whipped cream frosting. Wow is it ever good and the cake is so beautiful I had to take pictures of it.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2008
Very good recipe, but what worked for me was to brown the roast in a brazer, then add the other ingredients to the pan. Put the lid on and roast it in the oven at 300 degrees for about 7 or 8 hours. This way it does not get as watery as it does in the slow cooker.

Winter Fruit Salad with Lemon Poppyseed Dressing

Really delicious and a nice change from ordinary salads. I had a honey crisp apple to use in the salad and that made it even more delicious!

Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Bread

Really an excellent recipe. I made the recipe this very day and the smell is still wafting through the house. I like that it makes 2 loaves. Well worth making. It beats all the commerical Cinnamon Raisin bread to pieces.

Creamy Cauliflower Salad

Pretty good salad. A nice change from potato or pasta salad. I happened to have cauliflower just picked from the garden and I wanted to do something with it.

Oh my goodness is this ever delicious. The recipe is good and I used homegrown just picked tomatoes and basil from my garden and that is what made it outstanding.

Baked Potato Soup III

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2006
Is the bacon cooked or not? The recipe doesn't say. I think it is cooked before being added to the soup, but not saying to cook or not cook the bacon might be a problem for a beginner cook who wanted to make a nice soup recipe.

Crispy and Creamy Doughnuts

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2006
What makes a good recipe for me is if I want to make it again. This one is delicious. Easy to make. The only thing I did different is after I finished making the dough I put in a bowl wrapped with plastic wrap to let it rise in the refrigerator overnight. I took it out this morning and finished the steps of rolling the dough out, cutting the doughnuts, letting them rise and cooking them quickly in my wonderfully handy cast iron skillet. Thanks for the recipe Kelly, very delicious.

Carol's Chicken Salad

Very good. Excellent, in fact, but I'm here for the dressing. Somehow I can't imagine cheese and water chestnuts in chicken salad.

Bacon Ranch Pasta Salad

Reviewed: May 30, 2006
Not bad as far as the actual recipe, but the lack of clear instructions is a problem. Especially for someone just beinning to cook. It doesn't say to drain the olives and it doesn't mention the pasta at all in the instructions. I think it could confuse a beginner cook who wanted to make a nice, easy salad.

Beef Barley Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2006
What caught my attention about this recipe was cooking the meat first in a slow cooker. I said to myself, now why didn't I think of that? But then I'm thinking why go to a pot on the stove, why not cook it all in the slow cooker? So, I did. I cooked the meat for several hours first and then added the other things the recipe called for. I did add potatoes, green beans, corn and lima beans instead of the mixed vegetables. It turned out wonderfully. A nice recipe for a cold snowy day!

Well, surprise me! It is much better than I thought. Someone else was looking for a dumpling recipe without eggs and we found this one. I decided to try it too. It is quite good for what it is, but Granny's homemade chicken and dumplings can't be beat.
