About this Cook
I am 26 years old and I love to cook and bake. Sometimes I like cooking more, sometimes baking...depends on the day and what kind of mood I'm in. I tend to cook large meals even tho I live on my own. I'm currently in a long distance relationship and my significant other claims I'm "nesting". Wether he's right or wrong is up to interpretation I suppose. Within the last 6 months I've been working on eating and cooking healthier, using more fresh and organic ingredients (yes, I know, it's so unique and orginal these days). I try to eat 2-3 vegetarian meals a week and am getting better at it! I have a blog not on allrecipes because I'm poor-ish and don't have a credit card. http://corrozus.wordpress.com/
My favorite things to cook
I love making soup, I rarely follow the recipe exactly, I tend to improvise and change things up as I feel...that's probably what I like so much about making soups, the creativity and flexibility you can take with the recipe. I also enjoy cooking roasts, whole chicken, stews, and homemade pizza.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I come from a mennonite background, the cooking traditions in my family involve a lot of pork and cream and salt. One of the biggest things I've learned from my mother is how to can things and how to use my freezer to store up on pre-made foods. There's always a lasagna in my freezer ready to go!
My cooking triumphs
Getting my parents to try kale.
My cooking tragedies
um...apple caramel muffins made without baking powder because the recipe didn't list one and I didn't go with my gut, and my first time attempting pecan pie and pie crust did NOT turn out well, the filling never set properly and the dough absorbed a lot of it in spite of the fact that I pre-baked the crust.

Blueberry Buckle
I used frozen blueberries and ended up not baking it quite long enough. The middle wasn't quite done, but everything else tasted really good. My parents and picky brother approved so that's good enough for me.

Spelt Biscuits
I made them with soy milk and otherwise kept the recipe the same. They were tasty right out of the oven with organic honey spread on them but did not stand up well to the freezer. If I make them again I will probably make a half batch since I normally bake just for myself.

Too Much Chocolate Cake
Used this for my father's day dessert as my dad looooooves chocolate cake (and so do I). I used 2 9" round pans and made a nice layer cake, frosted with a simple chocolate frosting. The cakes were baked on friday and then assembled on sunday since a lot of the reviews said that it was best the next day. I omitted the chocolate chips. Everyone loved it.
