Grandma's Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2009
I've made this recipe twice and both times it was excellent. The two times that I've made it, I left out the flour, used less salt, added pepper and the first time I used garlic, like some other's have suggested. The first time I thought I had done something wrong because the sour cream seemed to curdle, but I realized the second time around, that I think the flour serves a purpose: to prevent the curdle effect and to hold the ingredients together. I used Jack cheese and topped with the crunchy French's onions like others have suggested, I think really no matter how you make it or what you add or change, it's still basically green beans and sourcream and it's so so good! Thank you to Amy Barry for the great recipe.

My Crab Cakes

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2009
I'd like to give these 5 stars for flavor and 3 stars for texture. I will absolutely use this recipe again because the spices were excellent with the dippin' sauce everyone's talking about. However, there wasn't enough crab and there was way too much cracker filling. I'd double or triple the amount of crab and use perhaps 1/3 to 1/4 of the cracker crumbs. I used a can of Trader Joe's crab and I highly recommend it. It had nice chunks of meat - not stringy stuff like some canned crab brands.

Creamy Potato Leek Soup II

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2009
I think this recipe is really great. I really loved this recipe, and unlike others, I thought the chunkiness was nice. I think that 3 sliced leeks was too much for me, because even after they were cooked, they seemed stringy and tough. I added the amount of maybe 1 1/2 or 2 leeks, because after I sliced them, there seemed to be a lot! But, maybe I just had extra large leeks. The recipe is delicious and I plan to make it again, when it gets colder here.

Mock Strawberry Jam

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2009
I didn't care for this. I love the idea - I was so facinated with this recipe I had to try it. Unfortunately, it did not turn out well for me. The end result was an overly sweet jar of stringy, googy, sticky Jello flavored jelly. I thought the zucchini would break down but it was still very much intact. I think the other reviewer who cooked and blended her zucchini had the right idea. Knowing that, I still wouldn't make this again because I didn't enjoy the flavor of Jello as jelly.

Delicious - I BBQ'd ours after marinating - yummy :) Also grilled up some zucchini & asparagus and served with more (untainted) sauce.

Quick and Easy Grilled Potatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2009
These are delicious and very simple to make. I used Yukon Gold's and sliced them about 1/4" thick. Then I steamed them for 5 minutes or so before brushing them with the marinade from "Grilled Garlic Artichokes." They took an additional 10 minutes or so on the grill and were tender on the inside and crispy on the outside.

California Grilled Veggie Sandwich

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2009
Wow, these are insanely delicious! My fiancé’s first words were "wow, this is great. Mmm, tastes like it's from a restaurant"... I added fresh chopped basil to the mayo, skipped the lemon and used Trader Joe's garlic mustard aioli to spread on one side of the bread. Also used TJ's Mediterranean feta. We ate them as regular sandwiches, not open faced as the recipe says. Lastly, once assembled, I wrapped them in foil and threw them back on the grill for a few minutes so the cheese would melt.

Italian Confetti Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2009
excellent recipe, super easy and yummy. It is pretty mayonaisey as others have said and yes, I measured my 2 cups of pasta before I cooked it! However, if you let it sit just a few hours, it's just right. The vinegar and fresh veggies make this special. I substituted about 1 teaspoon of dried basil for the fresh and added about a 1/2 teaspoon of Trader Joe's dried oregano. Will keep this recipe for future potlucks, bbq's, etc. Thanks :) I made this again and doubled all the veggies and used green scallions in place of the basil. OMG, way better than substituting dried basil for fresh. Everyone loved it!

Excellent batter, I didn't marinate them though and they were fabulous. I did some research online and found these tips: pat the shrimp dry and lightly dust them with flour to help the batter adhere.

These were tasty, I left out the chicken though. I had to bake for probably closer to 22-25 minutes before they were nice and crispy. I will make these again!

Wow, these are delicious!! I made these for breakfast so we could have crispy hashbrowns with every bite. I am really excited about this & will surely make these many times in the future. I forgot to add the onion, but will be more careful next time. We had these with fried eggs over medium and lots of tobasco.. Yuuummmmmmmmm! :)

Bloody Mary Short Ribs

Interesting idea but with my changes, I didn't like it. I'm a vegetarian so I substituted tofu. Secondly, I don't like tomatoes so I used margarita mix instead of bloody mary mix. Lastly, I decided to fry it instead and all in all, it wasn't very good.

Pasta Shells with Portobello Mushrooms and Asparagus in Boursin Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2009
Pretty good quick dinner! i've had this one saved in my recipe box since August 2005 so I figured it's about time I give it a try. I suggest cutting back on the broth because the sauce was just too watery. I ended up doubling up on the Boursin to make the sauce creamer which didn't make it too salty. Pretty good, but makes a ton, so I have lunch for 2 or 3 days next week!

Emily's Famous Marshmallows

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2009
I made homemade peeps and they didn't turn out as well as I expected. The marshmallow was too soft to hold the beak peeks! They were still cute but the directions provided by allrecipes staff aren't very good and the main picture they show is very different than the step by step directions that show you how to make a very different little chick.

Shrimp and Crab Bisque

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2009
Once you've had a real bisque, this recipe loses it's luster. The first time I made it, which was several years ago, I loved it. BUT, now that I've had the 'real thing' many times since then, I made it again and... it was very thick and goopy. I agree that sherry is probably the way to go because the wine didn't seem to fit and there was too much of it. I did not add the crab, just shrimp, because of other user comments that said the textures didn't match. I will not make this recipe again and do not recommend it.
