I married on October 24, 2009. We're both fish eating vegetarians (pesctatarians) so I look for healthy recipes that include high quality protein and fresh veggies. I also adore my big sister! She gave me the most insane bridal shower and then an even better bachelorette party (didn't know it was possible). We had a wonderful wedding, and she was my matron of honor. Basically, she's the bomb and I owe her big, big, big time. :)
My favorite things to cook
My husbands favorite thing for me to cook is pan roasted Ahi tuna steaks with cajun seasoning, basically blackened tuna. I personally love to try elegant and gourmet hors devours & seafood recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite cooking tradition has become baking Christmas basket treats the week before Christmas with Chuckles. I am fortunate to have the week before Christmas off of work each year and now my husband does too, so I spend that time at the house browsing recipes and making unusual and beautiful treats to give in big baskets to our families.
My cooking triumphs
I think meringue mushrooms are the funnest thing I've made that seemed like it'd be hard. And successfully making chocolate lava cakes was fun and my friends were very impressed! Knowing how to make things from scratch (no microwave in our house) off the top of my head is something I feel very proud of. Like knowing the simple ratio of a perfect bechemel or whipping up something yummy from random cans in the cabinet.
My cooking tragedies
Oh let's see... I tried for probably 20 minutes to mix half & half (thinking I was using heavy whipping cream) into whipped cream.... that didn't work! I once tried an Emeril recipe for spaghetti and meatballs using crumbled vegetarian "meat". It called for prepared mustard, which I'm still not sure what that is exactly, I used French's yellow and wow, that did not turn out well. I think the worse cooking tragedy was a shrimp bisque recipe from this site and that was horrifically gross and salty. It was so thick with flour and salty from bouillon and very boozy from too much wine that I literally could not eat it and I was SO embarrassed to have served it. I ate bread for dinner that night and will probably never make a seafood bisque again.
