Cabbage Roll Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2009
It doesn't look very good, I am not sure how I would feel presenting it to company but, it sure tastes good! My family was really skeptical but loved it. To be fair, I made it in a Dutch oven as a one dish meal. I used ground turkey, red and green cabbage (because I had it left over) and I used chicken broth because that was what I had. I also added 1 tsp worschtershire sauce, lots of ground black pepper and 1/4 cup vinegar.

Key Lime Pie I

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2009
This pie was really really good. I made it as my husbands birthday cake and thankfully I made 2 (doubled the recipe) because he ate a whole one himself in just over a day. And he is not a big eater usually. Key lime is his favorite and he REALLY really liked this pie. I liked the fact that it was baked just a little. I know the eggs supposedly cook in citric acid but I still feel better cooking even if it is only for 15 minutes. The pie set beautifully and looks beautiful. I added 1 drop of green food coloring just to push the color from yellow to green. I also added the zest of one lime and I could not find my cream of tartar so I omitted it.

Pudding or Pie Filling

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2009
This was good. The recipe worked out and it did make a pudding and was not hard to make at all. On the down side, when using it as a pie filling with a graham cracker crust, it seeps more liquid than I would like a pie to. It sets up fine but then liquid seeps from it. I made it with cocoa powder for a chocolate pudding pie and I topped it with whipped cream. I made it for my son because he hates Key Lime and I made Key Lime for my husband, and my son did not care for it at all. He might just be more used to the instant puddings. It is really important with this pudding to really get all the white away from the yolks, my yolks were not too eager to fully separate, despite my use of an egg separator, so I had little bits of curdled egg white in it, not a lot but it freaked my son out. I did not have a problem with burning. I use quality thick bottom pots and have an electric stove and heated it on medium heat and stirring with a wire whisk.

Naan

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
It tastes ok but the texture of mine was terrible. Really hard. The writer must live in a much different climate than I live in. The dough was much much too dry I had to add almost half a cup of water ti get the dough into a kneadable ball. I will keep looking for a naan recipe, this was not it for my dry geographical area.

Gingered Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2009
This is the only way to have sweet potatoes. The only thing I do different is add more salt and less pepper and 1/2 tsp vanilla extract just to my taste. I add some water and slice my potatoes in thin rounds and cook them in the water without the sugar for 5-10 to avoid burning.

Marinated Baked Pork Chops

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2009
Maybe I'm not a huge fan of pork but I followed this recipe to the letter and I was not impressed and none of us cared for it. It seems like all of the flavors went out of their way to highlight the porkyness of the porky taste. If you are not a fan of the pork flavor this recipe is not for you.

Best Beef Dip Ever

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2009
Very good. The first time I made this I had a pound more beef and 1/4 cup too little soy sauce on hand so I ended up having to add a couple teaspoons salt to bring out the flavors. It worked out. I served this with the "Fabulous French Loaves" from this site. I also served Kraft Horseradish sauce on the side and cream of celery soup posted by WONDERFALK also from this site. It was a tasty meal, the family loved it. I have made this several times and followed the recipe to the letter. There is no need to change this. The flavors really are perfection as is. It is not too much rosemary, it is not too much anything really.

Cream of Celery Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2009
Tastes as good or better than what I have had at 5 star restaurants. This one is a hit!! It is perfect with steak or a baked chicken dinner. I would probably continue to strain the veggies out if I was making this for guests but when I make it for my family, I pull the strings out of the celery and chop it small and then use a hand blender in the pot while cooking to puree it. I don't know if there is any nutritional value to the celery but I feel like a better mom leaving it in there.

Mahogany Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2007
My husband made these and he is a follow everything to the letter kind of guy. The flavor was really mediocre. It seemed like it needed some sort of citrus, maybe some orange juice or lime or something to counter the molasses. Overall the flavor was uninspiring and considering how good my hot wings are, I consider this a waste of good wings.

Cherry Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2007
Very good! I thought it was too sweet to start, I used 2 packs of cream cheese and added about 3/4 cup sour cream and beat it in my mixer for a good 5 minutes. I used fresh squeezed lemon juice and I used very finely grated lemon zest in it too. In the end it was wonderfully light and fluffy and just the right sweetness and solidness, and I had more filling than would fit in my shell so I could let everyone have a spoon full while the rest of the pie sat and waited for after dinner.

Wonderful Pita bread! This was better than Pappy's, puffed up very nicely and had a great flavor. Was easy to roll out as well. I added 2tbsp of light (in flavor) olive oil to the dough.

Corned Beef and Cabbage I

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2007
I made this as the recipe stated except my Corned Beef (Harris Brand) did not come with a spice package or any spices around it. I added 2 bay leaves and 1 TSP whole pepper corns and 1 TSP Spice Islands steak seasoning. I cooked it all and thought the meat should be more tender, so I refrigerated the cooked veggies and put the beef and the liquids into my crock pot and cooked it overnight on low. I reheated the veggies and added the meat and juices and it was INCREDIBLE!! Everyone can't get over how good it is.

Cinnamon Rolls III

"....The best recipe ever." My son exclaimed as he bit into one of these things. He and my husband ate them all within a few hours. I'll have to make these only for special occasions because otherwise I fear for everyone's figures. These are amazing, I made them in my stand mixer.

Diana's Hawaiian Bread Rolls

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2006
This recipe was really awful all the way around. Not even my dog liked them. The dough was sticky and gross and impossible to work with. I added 1/4 cup more flour and it was still impossible. I followed the recipe to the letter and am a pretty good cook. It is not often I make something really bad. This was that bad and SO frustrating to work with. I did muddle through it, I did get them to the oven and I had ugly brownish rolls. Truly nasty, I think this is the worst recipe I have ever made from this site actually. If you want fluffy and sweet rolls for something do yourself a favor, do what I did after I got these disasters out of the oven and took a bite. I went back to my tried and true, the "Tasty Buns" recipe on this same site. I added 1/4 cup more sugar and a little lemon extract (1/8 tsp)and a little vanilla extract (1/2 tsp) and YUMMY white fluffy delicious rolls, better than the store and Soooo easy to work with. "Tasty Buns" recipe, look it up and pass on this horrible recipe.

Chicken with Grape Tomatoes and Fried Basil

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2005
Amazing! Totally elegant in presentation and flavor they'll never guess how quick and simple it was to make. It makes the house smell wonderful too. I LOVE it with the basil. To avoid a "hay" taste be sure to fry the basil to BRIGHT GREEN and NOT DARK GREEN or Black! I'm updating because I have made this several times now and tonight the grocery store did not have any fresh basil. I bought a bag of prewashed baby spinach and fried it instead and then added 2 teaspoons of dried basil to the sauce as I was cooking it. It was just as good and the baby spinach is about half the price or less than the basil. Also definately don't try making this with anything but real grape tomatoes. Their sweet unique flavor is what really does it for this dish. AND COOKING WINE! My store was out of cooking wine and I tried using a medium dry white and YUCK!!!
