Peach Kuchen
About this Cook
I come from a long line of amazing cooks. I have been learning from my great-grandmothers, grandmothers, aunts and my mom since I was old enough to stir a batter or peel a carrot (which was about 3-years-old). I enjoy cooking and find it cathartic at times, and entertaining at others.
My favorite things to cook
I really love comfort foods. I prefer to cook for large groups of hungry people, too. (I need to have a large family someday, I think!)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Soups and breads. Although I don't give myself much credit in the baking department, I can usually handle the basics. I've definitely had my share of doughy cakes and breads and burnt buns. Every Saturday morning, my grandma would (and often still does) start several loaves of bread and a delicious soup. My favorite is her vegetable beef, but I've yet to try one I haven't slurpped up.
My cooking triumphs
I assume this means things I have received compliments on. Those would be my "Amazing Artichoke Spinach Dip," which I created, and my corn chowder (my mother-in-law loves my recipe, which I got off this site, but added a few twists). I have also invented what I call a Hawaiian Spam Slider which I will post on this site very soon. Everyone (especially the "Spam-virgins") rave about this dish.
My cooking tragedies
Last Thanksgiving, my sisters, mom, grandma, aunts and cousins had our own Thanksgiving version of Iron Chef, and although we were very close (the judges were our husbands), my team lost the competition. That was a hard pill to swallow... and a HUGE mess to clean up! It was one of the most memorable Thanksgivings we've had, though. We had a blast together!

Red Garlic Mashed Potatoes
I made this last night and was very disappointed, unfortunately. The sugar ruined the whole dish in my (and my family's) opinion. In fact, my sister and I sampled the potatoes before I added any ingredients (just the boiled potatoes, to which I added salt) and we thought they were delicious. Once I added the rest of the ingredients I regretted it. I would make them again with 2X the liquid, using milk instead of half and half, and not quite so much butter and omit the sugar completely. Gotta give props to the rest of your dinner menu, though. I made the meatloaf and green beans - they were a hit! I think I will adopt the meatloaf recipe as my own. I hate meatloaf (unfortunately I'm the only one in my family) and this one was devoured by everyone including me! The Peach cobbler didn't turn out - but then again, baking has never been my fortè.
