No Bake Cookies III

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2009
My 17 year old has been requesting these for the last week. Kinda funny really as I don't think I have made them since she was much younger. Last night I made them and she loved them. They were dull looking and not glossy, must have over stirred a little, but definitely hasn't affected the taste! Just like my Mom used to make when I was a kid!

Amish White Bread

My kids love this bread. I don't add as much sugar as called, it's just not needed and tastes just as fabulous! Thanks for a great recipe. I have been making three loaves a week for the last couple months! Great for sandwiches too!

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2008
Yum! Listened to others and added the worcestershire sauce and the lipton onion soup mix. Also mixed the ketshup, worst. and brown sugar and spread on top of meatloaf. Wonderful. All four kids loved it. I made double batch for left over sandwiches, well the down side of them loving it so much-- no leftovers! Will make again.

Flavorful Flounder

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2008
Kids enjoyed it, except my 11 year old who only likes salmon. This is our first time eating flounder. I did it in the oven as well, and then the last minute I put under broiler to finish off with a prettier brown color.

Taco Salad I

Loved the one dish meal. Listened to others and used Catalina, not a whole bottle though, maybe a cup, and then crushed up nacho doritoes. Served jalapenos and sour cream on side. Leftovers though that I am sure no one will eat as the Doritoes will be soggy.

Homemade Pancake Mix

Excellent. My 10 year old daughter just made this for us for lunch! She decided to add chocolate chips instead. Fabulous... and my son who doesn't like "whole wheat" didn't tell them it was in there-he couldn't even guess! Will make again!

Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2007
Made this today for the Superbowl tomorrow. I did 1 lb. lean ground chuck, 1 lb fresh ground italian sausage and 1 lb stew meat diced into smaller pieces. Also added a fresh jalepeno and one whole bottle of beer. My husband is a chili fanatic and said it was great. I went into the kitchen and found half the huge pot already gone, apparently the kids loved it too. Not much left for the game tomorrow! Go Bears!

Baked Ziti I

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2007
Excellent. I made tonight for dinner. Actually I doubled it and put in my huge roasting pan, so we would have lots of leftovers, and I could freeze some too. Too save time, I didn't layer it, I simply mixed everything together. I also used 1 lb. ground turkey and 1 lb. sweet ground italian sausage instead of ground beef. Sargento has a mozzarella/provolone shredded mix so I just used that. I stirred in 3 (26. oz each) cans of spaghetti sauce, and also stirred in some italian seasoning and fresh garlic. On top of everything, I poured a 4th final can over and then sprinkled on a little extra cheese. Put foil on top and baked 40 minutes. Will make again.

Creamy Rice Pudding

Excellent! I simply used left over rice from dinner the other night. I also used regular raisins instead of golden. No one else in the family likes rice pudding and wouldn't try it..so sad.. more for me!!

Country Breakfast Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2006
excellent! We try a different casserole each Christmas, and my husband claims this to now be his current favorite. Made last night and put in fridge, and simply put in oven this morning. After reading the reviews, I didn't use bread, and I browned a bag of hashbrowns with the sausage, along with one finely chopped onion. I used Jimmy Dean sage sausage. Put that in the bottom of a 9x13 pan, put on a handful of cheese and then the gravy mix. Baked this morning and then added a little more cheese when almost done. Thanks for the recipe!

Banana Bread I

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2006
I was looking for a recipe that didn't have baking powder as I had run out and didn't feel like running to the store! So, thought I would try this-- everyone loved it, even my picky son. I meant to add walnuts but forgot, it was still great. VERY MOIST! I baked in into one regular size loaf pan. Also I did a couple things differently- did the half white sugar half brown, for the 1 1/2 cups flour--the half cup I put in whole wheat flour the rest I did the white. I try to sneak in healthy things when I can without my kids realizing it. I also added two TBS of milled flax seed, which I thought for sure one of the kids or my husband would comment on "it tastes weird" or something. NO one even noticed, so mums the word on that. Plus I added an extra banana, and I also did at a couple shakes of cinnamon and vanilla. Will make again. Thanks for the base!

Rhubarb Dream Bars

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2006
mmmm... we loved it. I had a hard time convincing my husband to try something new instead of his favorite-- plain 'ole rhubarb pie. But I did, and everyone loves it. I have to say though, we prefer ours a little more tart. I only used one and a quarter cups of sugar plus I used about 6 cups rhubarb. Thanks for the recipe. Will make again!

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2006
Fabulous, just as everyone said! I replaced about 1/2 cup of all purpose white with whole wheat, as we are trying to incorpate more into what we eat. Plus, I added cinnamon and vanilla to the batter as I love these too. I also tossed my blueberries in four first so they wouldn't sink. Will definitely make again! YUM! Thank you!

Cabbage Roll Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2006
Excellent! Just what I was looking for. We all love it and it was simpler than filling all the cabbage pieces, thank you! I also browned the meat with the onions and garlic as everyone mentioned. I also added two minor things, which I always put into my cabbage rolls, one small can of tomato soup and a couple shakes of worcestershire sauce, this was in addition to the large can of tomato sauce called for. This will definitely be made again.

Pat's Baked Beans

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2005
These were a hit today. My husband forgot to buy the bacon so I used Jimmy Dean Sage sausage that I had. When I was frying it up there didn't seem to be any fat, so I added the chopped onion and garlic to that. I didn't want huge pieces so when cooked, I dumped on my cutting board and took 30 seconds to use my hand food chopper to finely chop up the mixture, and added that to the bean mix. We also used Navy instead of Garbanzo, everything else I used the same, and also shook in just a couple dashes of tabasco to counter the sugar. bravo! A keeper-- you please my husband and that goes a long way in my book! Merry Christmas!

Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2005
worked great! Just like everyone said! Happy to find one without eggs as well! I too add the extra milk. Instead of just the almond, I added half almond and half lemon extract. Normally I also add some vanilla as well--the three combos are awesome together, my Mom has always done professional cake decorating icing with all 3 together, I ran out of clear vanilla this time though. Thanks for the simple recipe! Merry Christmas!

Fried Green Tomatoes

We loved these! I used Ritz crackers, the taste was awesome. I have tried several recipes over the years, and they were either soggy, greasy, no flavor, or the outside coating would fall off. These held up perfectly. Will make again!
