It was ok. Not the best, but not the worse. Easy to make though.

Quick Hoppin' John Soup

Good base recipe. We used 1 can of Pinto Beans and 1 can of Black eyed peas, because it was what we had. 2 bags of frozen rice from another entree and added Chicken Jalapeno Sausage from Trader Joe's. Delicious! Made enough for a 2nd day.

French Butter Cakes (Madeleines)

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2009
Very Good. Used my kitchen aid mixture. Did not fold in flour and zest. Just threw it in and blended it a little. Update: 1/1/10 I would definitely recommend folding in the zest and flour. It will allow your batter to stay fluffy. My daughter and I visited the French Pastry School in Chicago and were taught how to make them. The key is to butter and flour every nook and cranny of the madeleine pan, so they come out perfectly shaped showing those deep ridges. If you get the belly bump, that's considered perfect. I never knew that, I thought they were incorrectly done if you had a bump. Well, those are tips straight from the horses mouth. Oh, I used a metal pan from Sur La Table. I'm one of those people who are wary of these non-stick/silicone/caphalon pans/cooking utensils. Its more work, but our grandparents did it, so can we!

Easy and delicious. My 9 year old prepared these. We used corn syrup. Some tasted very much like grapes.

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2009
Delicious! Doubled the ingredients, substituted apple cider vinegar for the white vinegar, added fresh blueberries, added vanilla extract and just a tad bit more milk. No one could get enough. No syrup needed. Very fluffy, 1/2 inch thick.

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

First of all, I haven't rated a recipe so low before. With all these rave reviews, I thought I was on to something. The biscuits came out of the oven looking good. But had a bland floury taste. I've had, made and tasted better will not be making again. We ate it with honey butter didn't help.

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2009
Family loved them. i only added 1 cup white sugar and 1 cup brown sugar, turned out perfect. I also swirled some peanut butter on top of batter and added some chocolate chips on top, as well. I also added walnuts on 1/2 the batter. (I don't particulary care for walnuts) My husband and kids loved it. Old fashioned taste, did not taste like anything from a box. Came out thick. Everyone could only eat one, very dense. First time I had leftovers. Made 12 good size brownies.

Blooming Onion and Dipping Sauce

Excellent. I did do the bloomin' part. Just stick to the petals and it is just as good and tasty. For the sauce I didn't haven any horseradish, so I left it out, it wasn't missed. Make sure you season up your flour really well. That's the flavor you are going to have.
