Beef Pot Roast

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2012
I followed the instructions exactly and found the meat tough. I cook the exact same piece of meat in the slow cooker and it is always perfect and tender. I tried this because I did not have time for the slow cooker but I think I am back to slow cooking. There was plenty of liquid produced by the meat and the gravy was excellent. Did not need to add liquid.

Chocolate Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2012
I thought this bread was good but a bit to dense and heavy for my liking. I found it didn't rise a lot and found looking at pictures a lot of people had the same experience. It is definitely a good combo of banana and chocolate though. When I have made chocolate zucchini all you taste is chocolate where here there is definitely lots of banana flavor. Think all in all I like plain banana bread better. Thanks anyway.

Banana Sour Cream Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2011
Wow!! This is a great recipe. I added a tsp of baking powder whicI I think made the texture of the cake perfect and made the crumb topping as suggested by another reviewer. I have made a lot of banana bread in my life and this is the best. I have two standard loaf pans and it wasn't big enough to hold the batter so that was a problem. I over filled the pans and some of the batter spilled out. The crumb topping didn't look great as a result but hubby thought this was the best part. Anyway will be making this again for sure.

Hungarian Mushroom Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2011
If you are looking for a traditional creamy soup this isn't for you. I find that kind of soup boring and bland this is earthy and delicious. So much better than any mushroom soup I have ever had. I don't mix the flour separately with milk I add it to the mushrooms and onions and then add broth. I add milk in at the end and don't boil it long it can separate.

Banana Crumb Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2011
These muffins did not get the proper crown on them. Not sure if I did something wrong but I have made a lot of muffins in my time and these just were not right. Also thought the topping was too sweet. Guess I will stick to my banana bread

Chocolate Zucchini Bread I

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2011
If I had rated this the day I made it I would have given it 4 stars but probably not made it again. I could taste the zucchini in it for sure. I like zucchini bread but to me it seemed you should make either zucchini bread or chocolate loaf not combine the two. However the next day it was more moist and chocolately and i could not taste the zucchini as much. Initially I did not like the idea of two smaller loaves but now I think thats a good idea it slowed me down somewhat. The only changes I made were 1.5 cups of sugar and it was plenty sweet and half applesauce half oil. Very good will make it again for sure just leave it to cure first.

Nacho Dip I

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2011
The taco seasoning is key. It sets this dip apart from all the others. I always put scallions and red peppers on top of the salsa and then grated cheddar on top of that. I went to a BBQ and just by chance two other people brought the exact recipe minus the taco seasoning in the cream cheese. Mine was the first to go by far and everyone wanted the recipe. Always a crowd pleaser.

Playgroup Granola Bars

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2011
I really did not like these at all. They need something to make them crispy. They are very much like a cakey sort of bar and bland. I made another batch from a recipe on another site and it used rice crispies and it was much much better.

Shepherd's Pie VI

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2010
OK, well my husband licked his plate! I made this with some adaptations others have suggested as well as my own. I used a package of gravy mix, Worcestershire sauce, a bit of soy sauce, thyme, and oregano. I used the flour as well as the gravy mix and found I had to add more water. Next time no flour.

Apple Crisp IV

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2010
I thought this is an excellent apple crisp recipe. It was buttery and delicious. I think this recipe as too much topping to apple ratio. Maybe this is why other reviewers said it was dry, or too much flour. It is a "crisp" after all and should taste like crumbly cookies I guess. If you cut back on the flour and oats and keep the butter the same that will not work. I don't but a bottom crust on which means I had even more crust. Anyway it is delicious and now my go to recipe for a crisp.

Plum Blueberry Upside Down Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2010
This was a very good cake. There is a nice contrast between sweet and tart. To be honest it tasted just as I expected it to judging by the ingredients and pictures. No surprises here. I did not pile the blueberries in the middle I think the presentation and taste is better when the blueberries are sprinkled around.

Artichoke Dip I

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2010
Delicious and decadent. I chopped the artichoke up finely and mixed everything together before putting it in a dish. I made sure not to overcook and took it out of the oven after 23 min. My company is raving about it and wants the recipe. The best thing is how easy it is you can throw it together with stuff you have on hand.

Pear Crumb Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2010
Never made a pear pie before but someone gave me a big bag of them so I had to put them to good use. We were all pleasantly surprised. It was a lot like apple pie but without the tartness. Everyone who has tried it loves it.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2010
Wow! This is amazing. I used 2 cups of brown sugar and added one large granny smith apple to the batter. Instead of water I used apple juice, because I added the apple I reduced the apple juice to 1/2 cup. This is quite awesome.

Black Bean Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2010
Soup is amazing but I only gave 4 stars because the original recipe as written is definitely too watery. I read the reviews after I dumped everything together and thought it looked a little watery. I ended up using a third can of beans and just cooking it at a slightly higher temperature to boil off some of the excess liquid. Flavor is excellent though. I did add cilantro and lime at the end.

Oatmeal Carmelitas

Reviewed: Jun. 24, 2010
I did not love these but everyone else at work did so I am giving it 5 stars based on that. They are just like date squares but instead of dates its chocolate and caramel. I used dulce de leche which is a slightly thicker version of carmel sauce. As a result of it being thicker I used slightly less flour over the mixture of carmel and chocolate, 2 tbsp instead of 3. They were easy enough to make and had a nice texture.

Ash-e-jow (Iranian/Persian Barley Soup)

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2010
I am crazy about this soup. LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Some said it kind of had an unusual taste and thats true and thats is what I liked so much. I would say it has an earthy taste. I made the recipe exactly as written except I added saffron as pr other reveiws. It is hearty, healthy, easy to make and delicious what else could you ask for? Next time I am doubling the recipe and will freeze some. It makes a decent sized pot of soup [7 cups when finished]. I also think I will add some chick peas for protein. Thanks so much Autum leaves.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
I made this recipe using chocolate pudding and they were delicious but I did not like the color of them. They were not a deep black chocolate color almost like an orange/brown color. Do not use a clay cookie sheet the cookies turn out way to soft. I also think this recipe makes too many cookies better to cut this recipe in half.
