Roasted Brussels Sprouts

A very yummy option! Loved them, though I used a bit too much salt - would probably half that next time.

Hobo Dinner

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2008
added the onion soup mix to the recipe and it was flavorful. I think I cut my potatoes too big and I used the mini carrots and didn't cut them so they never got soft, both of which I'd do differently next time.

Tasty BBQ Corn on the Cob

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2006
We didn't make it really spicy but used a bit of oregano, onion powder etc and it was a nice change but I think we still prefer plain old butter and salt.

I'm not a fan of ham but my family is and they really liked this. I loved how easy it was to make.

Beef Stew II

I did as others mentioned and added beer, etc...also tried with egg noodles but they were mushy by the time we ate - would serve on them next time but not add them to the recipe.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2004
Just did the onion soup mix, water, and then added potatos and carrots and it was great! 3 lbs took 6 hours at medium in my slow cooker.

Pork Chop Pileups

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2003
WOW! I upsized this to 8 pork chops and I used green onion instead of regular onion; water instead of milk; and tomato soup instead of mushroom (I don't like mushroom) and it was amazing! I cooked for just over an hour, and had cut the potatos very thin, and it was juicy and delicious! Even the teens liked this one, and it had green beans it!:)

False Cabbage Rolls

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2003
We doubled this recipe since there are 6 of us and found out quickly that we didn't need to as that made a lot! We did as others suggested and did half the tomato soup and the other half was tomato sauce. We also made the rice in with the dish, and added a few spices (Italian seasoning, parsley, etc). The rice was brown rice and it took a long time for it to get soft, and for the cabbage to soften - probably about an hour. It was starting to burn at the bottom of the pot because I wasn't stirring well enough so definitely need to watch that too. We'll make again, for certain!

Steak Marinade

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2003
The whole family loved it! We used red wine vinegar and canola oil mix, like someone else suggested, and it turned out great! We only marinated for about 2 hrs, and we used cheaper cuts of steak, but everyone wanted seconds.

Beef with Vegetables

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2003
WOW! I never have seconds but I ate seconds and all the leftovers of this! We didn't have any ginger and didn't use oyster sauce....we did use carrots, green onions (instead of regular onions), green beans, and green peppers for veggies. I made beef broth from the beef sachets and I did make too much (I had doubled the recipe but I don't think this needed doubled) but we served it on rice and the extra juice tasted excellent so I think I'd leave it doubled. We'll be eating this one frequently- all the kids loved it too! Excellent flavor and super easy!

Cabbage, Potato and Baked Bean Soup

This is ok - it is filling and tastes fine, but not spectacular. I made a lot and froze it, which will be convenient down the road. I like the affordability factor too!

Appalachian Slaw

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2003
LOVED IT! I think the cabbage needs to be in even smaller pieces than I did, and it probably would be a smidge better if left overnight but it was still excellent the way it was. I added quite a bit more mayo than suggested and only used half the salt. Next time I'd do more tomato and cucumber but this was a delicious, quick and easy slaw!

Cheapskate Stew

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2003
My family loved it - more than I did! I did as others mentioned and added more italian seasoning as well as some garlic powder. I had no frozen veggies so used fresh green beans, along with the carrots, celery and onion. I also added more pasta to make it more of a meal, instead of a stew. I say 4 stars, my family says 5!

Marica's Spaghetti Meat Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2003
To start with, I did make this differently in that I did not have sage or mushrooms or pork in mine. I used 2 lbs of beef and increased everything else accordingly. I also used canned diced tomatoes instead of fresh ones. I would definitely drain some tomato juice from the cans next time because this ended up being more like a soup/stew. It was really good but didn't seem like a spaghetti topping because of this. I would make it again and maybe once drained, the sauce would be more like a sauce than a soup.

Caramelized Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2003
We used 2 whole chickens and doubled the recipe but only used half the olive oil (because the chicken juices would naturally increase the amount of fluid) and half the honey (ran out - ooops!) My kids still loved it, and so did we. We did have to keep an eye on it though - it woudl have had a tendency to burn as others have mentioned.

Barbecue Beef for Sandwiches

We used the slow cooker method mentioned by someone else (4 hrs in cooker, plus 1 hr with sauce) and it turned out excellent! Shredding the meat was messy but once I let it cool a bit it was much easier.

I didn't have applesauce so I mushed up 2 apples as best as I could, added some cinnamon and threw that in the bag. This was absolutely delicious!
