About this Cook
Cooking is one of my favorite past times (and of course, eating what I cook;) I live in Southern Michigan and have been married since 9/1997. No kids yet, husbands Grandmother lives with us and that's enough for now. Thank you members, for all your great contributions to this site!
My favorite things to cook
Main courses, bread maker breads, Mexican, Italian, Southern Style.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Canning tomato juice every year with my Mom and Grandma, at the time it seemed like a horrible chore, but what great things they have taught me! Also learning to make beans and cornbread and chocolate pies from my Grandmother.
My cooking triumphs
Mastering the dishes that my husband said he would never like, I have managed to get to him to try and enjoy everything besides bean soup and one of these days I'm going to manage to get him to try that, too! ;)
My cooking tragedies
Cooked a round steak for the first time in the crock pot after I was first married, and took the advice of the girls at work to leave it on HIGH for ten hours with no liquids. It had the consistency of rocks..and dh and his best friend still ate it to make me feel better, bless them! My inability to master dough of any kind, even if I start it in the bread machine. I really have issues with trying to manipulate pizza dough, biscuits, etc. Making hamburgers in a skillet for the first time and burning them into hockey pucks ( I was about 10 years old ) The dog wouldn't even eat them!

BLT Pasta Salad
The bacon made it really salty and I ended up adding a lot of extra dressing because it got dry - but it went over very well at the church luncheon and I've had requests for it again. Thank you very much.

Oven Roasted Red Potatoes and Asparagus
This was very delicious. I'm not a huge rosemary fan so I heeded others advice and used half the amount of both that and the thyme. Used extra garlic because we like it. I cooked the potatoes for 25 minutes then added the asparagus for another 10-15 minutes before uncovering and cooking another 10 minutes. The asparagus took longer than I thought it would but it was a little tough to begin with. I used another reviewers advice and put a little Parmesan cheese on at the end and it was great. We have a few red potatoes leftover since I bought a 3lb bag and we will be having the dish again minus the asparagus before the week is over. Thanks for the great recipe!
