Waffles I

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2009
These were good. I added some chocolate chips to each waffle after I poured the batter on the waffle iron and served them with syrup and peanut butter for a fun breakfast for the kids. Would make these again.

Homestyle Turkey, the Michigander Way

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2009
Delicious! I'm a fairly good cook, but this was my first time roasting a turkey. Instead of using minced onion, I stuffed the cavity of the turkey with some fresh onion and celery. I used less seasoning salt (based on some of the reviews I saw) and added some fresh ground pepper. I had to skip the dried parsley because I thought I had some at home but apparently I was out. The turkey was super juicy, and everyone raved about how good it was!

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2009
This was great! I omitted the onion powder because I prefer fresh chopped onion sauteed with the meat. (I used ground turkey) I won't be buying premade taco seasoning anymore!

Tangy Dill Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2009
This was great for our 4th of July BBQ! I used lowfat italian dressing and lowfat mayo. I added about 1/3 cup diced celery, and used only 1/2 cup of mayo. I also increased the lemon juice to 2 tsp. and added some salt. I would definitely make this again.

Honey Mustard Dressing

Reviewed: May 11, 2009
Delicious! I ran out of mayo and couldn't make my usual mayo-based honey mustard dressing the other night. I hopped online and found this non-mayo dressing and absolutely loved it! This will be my regular dressing recipe from now on!

Garlic Prime Rib

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2008
Excellent recipe! This was my first time attempting prime rib at home. It came out perfectly. I had a 4.75lb standing rib roast, so I halved the recipe. I followed some of the other suggestions and did the first 20 minutes at 450 degrees (and still had a little smoke) and then turned the oven down to 325, inserted the probe for my digital thermometer, and set it for 140 (rare) so it would reach medium rare after resting. It took about 40 minutes to get to 140. I threw some baking potatoes into the oven with the roast and roasted some thin asparagus in the oven while the roast rested. With some creamy horseradish, this was an amzaing Christmas meal!

Ham with Pineapple Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2008
I made this go to with our ham on Thanksgiving. I thought it was too sweet as is, so I added a teaspoon of lemon juice and a couple pinches of red chili flakes. I thought it was ok, but other people seemed to like it. I probably wouldn't make this again though.

Tuna Noodle Casserole III

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2008
A hit with the kids! I changed the recipe slightly -- I used about 1/3 cup shredded cheddar cheese instead of the slices, and used 1 tsp. butter and 1/4 cup milk instead of the butter cubes. I mixed everything up, sprinkled with cracker crumbs and baked. Both my kids took seconds and my son (age 4) said he wanted to eat it again tomorrow night too!

Beef Stroganoff III

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2006
This was very good. I used 1 lb ground sirloin instead of chuck, and just simmered it for 20 minutes. I also added more mushrooms, and 1 large clove of minced garlic. With egg noodles, it made a nice weeknight dinner.

Breaded Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2006
These were very good. I didn't have enough dry bread crumbs so I ground up part of a french baguette in my food processor and used that. It made slightly coarser crumbs that got really crisy during cooking. The chops were really tender and we liked the flavor the worchestershire sauce gave. I'd make this again!

Blue Cheese Crusted Filet Mignon with Port Wine Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2006
I thought this was good, but my husband thought the blue cheese was too overpowering. I used merlot instead of port because that's what I had at home. The sauce wasn't as saucy as I would have liked (it was more chunky from the onions and garlic) but it had a nice taste. I would also lessen the cooking time a bit because our meat turned out medium well (almost well done) and we prefer it to be medium.

Angel's Old Fashioned Beef Stew

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2005
Delicious! I made this tonight but with a couple changes. I omitted the celery since we don't care for it, and added salt and pepper to the simmering stew because it needed salt and we like pepper. Simmered it for 90 minutes and served with biscuits on the side. I would definitely make this again!

Savory Crescent Chicken

Reviewed: May 13, 2005
I've made these twice, once without the pimentos and croutons and once with pimentos and fat free herb croutons. I definitely preferred the taste with the croutons -- we thought the filling didn't have much taste on it's own, but with the croutons, it tasted much better. Next time I make these I'll try adding some cheddar cheese or even slivered almonds.

Green Chili Stew

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2005
This was great! I made a couple minor changes to it. I couldn't find the tomatoes with diced green chiles, so I used a can of tomatoes with diced jalepenos. Also, after browning the meat, I dumped everything into my crockpot and simmered it on low for 6 hours. I added the potatoes during the last hour of cooking so they wouldn't turn to much. Served the stew with corn muffins, and it made a delicious dinner.

Makhani Chicken (Indian Butter Chicken)

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2005
We liked this recipe, but we didn't think of it as butter chicken, but some other type of chicken. It didn't remind us much of butter chicken at all. I used fresh garlic instead of the garlic paste (I don't like the acidic taste of garlic and ginger pastes). We had this with naan (indian flatbread) and raita (yogurt with shredded cucumber). I would make this again.

Cinnamon-Roasted Almonds

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2004
Yum! I had a bunch of raw whole almonds that I needed to use, so I thought this recipe would be good. I changed it as others suggested by adding 1/2 c brown sugar, 1 tsp vanilla, and doubled the salt and cinnamon. Everyone enjoyed them, and I think I'll make another batch to give out to friends for the holidays! Thanks!

OU Corn Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2004
Yum! I made this as part of our Thanksgiving dinner and everyone loved it. We all thought it was just like the El Torito Sweet Corn Cake. Now I can make it from "scratch" instead of buying the El Torito mix for $2. Thanks for posting this easy and delicious recipe!

Rosemary Roasted Turkey

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2004
Delicious! We brined the turkey first in salt, brown sugar, bay leaves, and peppercorns. I had a 20 lb turkey so I doubled this recipe. We all loved the flavor and the meat was very moist.

Turkey Shepherd's Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2004
MAde this for dinner tonight but I did make some changes to make it more appealing for my son. I didn't have mushrooms, so instead I added some chopped celery, corn, peas and red bell pepper. I also topped the potatoes with a bit of cheddar cheese. Both hubby and I liked it, but thought it could use more flavor. Next time I will try adding worchestershire sauce as suggested by other raters.
