About this Cook
I'm a country girl and I enjoy trying new things. I like to say I like everything in general and nothing in particular. My pet peeve on this website is folks who criticize when it's obvious they've messed up the recipe. If you have 98% five star reviews and then you have someone come along and criticize, it's pretty obvious most of the time, they messed up. Then there are those that say it's too sweet or too fattening; the ingredients tell the tale. If you look at the ingredients in advance, you normally have a clue as to what the health content is going to be. I read through these reviews sometimes and I think of Thumper "if you can't say something good about something, don't say nothing at all". Constructive criticism is fine. But sometimes I think there are folks who want to be hateful. I believe we should LIVE WELL, LAUGH OFTEN AND LOVE MUCH!
My favorite things to cook
Baking is by far my favorite. I also like doing appetizers and pot luck dinner dishes. My husband thinks the Christmas time kitchen aroma is a must-have family tradition.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Holiday cooking is the best! Lots of family and friends around sharing their favorite dishes. Church gatherings are always wonderful as well. Making cookies and "rock candy" with my Mom at Christmas are great memories as well as the special Easter eggs she made in peanut butter, maple nut, cherry nut and coconut. I learned to decorate with icing on those chocolate eggs! There is nothing like the sound of endless chatter and laughter around the table in a home, thank God I experienced that everyday growing up as a child.
My cooking triumphs
I was so pleased with myself when I was out on my own for the first time because I could make spaghetti sauce out of a jar of Ragu and a pound of ground beef! That lasted longer than I care to say. I became bored and eventually discovered all the wonderful cookbooks out there and I learned to try recipes and cook things even my Mom hadn't prepared. I'm still not adventurous as far as trying my own dishes, but I've come a long way with my spaghetti sauce. ;) I've found that generic ingredients aren't always your best bet when it comes to cooking. High humidity, an oven that's temperature isn't accurate and failing to review the recipe completely before trying to prepare it can cause problems or a failed dish. If you like the ingredients and it doesn't come out the first time, always give the recipe a second chance before you give up on it.
My cooking tragedies
I can't seem to get bread making or fudge recipes right. I failed the "NO FAIL FUDGE" recipe. Everyone was passing that recipe around and being successful with it, I never could get it to work for me. I knew it had to be me because everyone else was having success.

Cut-Out Cookies in a Flower Pot
Thank you Laura for giving me the sugar cookie cut out recipe I have been searching for! After leaving the dough in the fridge overnight, it was hard. Left it out a while and worked with it and it was just fine. These are not to sweet and don't have that flour taste so many cookies do. Used another reviewer's suggestion and used JBS BOX's recipe on here for sugar cookie icing. I have Halloween cookies that are bakery quality and everyone who tasted them said the same thing. If you want a crisper cookie, cut them thinner. Once they start browning around the edges, they are done. BUT, even my overbaked ones tasted good. I used parchment paper to bake them on. Didn't change the recipe at all. I can't wait to make Christmas cookies in all different shapes this year with this recipe!

Sugar Cookie Icing
Used this icing to decorate Halloween cookies with my 4 and 8 year old great nieces and it is the best I've tried! I used orange extract for pumpkins, almond for bats and vanilla for ghosts and all were tasty. Put this icing with the Cut Out Cookies In a Flower Pot recipe on this web site and you have a perfect "bakery quality" cookie. I'm anxious to make Christmas cookies with this recipe and decorate gingerbread boys! Thank you for sharing!

Daddy's Whisker Soup
Thank you for sharing this recipe! I put too much milk so I added some instant potatoes to thicken, a bit of garlic powder and my husband requested some bacon bits to put on top. I didn't have any dill, but if I missed anything, I sure didn't taste it! First cold day after Summer and yummy hot soup for dinner. I'll make this again and pass it along as well!
