I love cooking, and I try to make something new for dinner as often as possible. I also love cooking for our friends on the weekends. I started cooking in college and have loved it and have been getting better ever since.
My favorite things to cook
Everything! Especially appetizers.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Anything German (since my entire family is from Germany and they have great recipes). My husband never liked sauerkraut until he tried mine! (The trick is rinsing it off - you lose so much of the sour taste.)
My cooking triumphs
Many from this site, like chicken enchilada dip and grilled garlic artichokes. And many from my mom, like tomato pie and chicken paprikash. Whenever I get a compliment on my cooking I consider it a triumph.
My cooking tragedies
I wanted to try making the German hamburgers my great grandma (Oma) used to make. Since she is no longer living, my mom gave me the recipe. Everything was easy about making it, except for adding the salt. Oma, my grandma and my mom would always taste the uncooked pork to tell if it was seasoned enough. Since I was not going to eat raw pork, and I didn't think of cooking just a small piece to taste test, I just guessed about the amount. Well, I guessed wrong, and it was so salty I had to throw it out.
