American Lasagna

Lasagna appeals to the eye as well as to the taste buds. Here, ground beef, onion, garlic, basil, tomatoes and a dash of brown sugar make up the sauce, while ricotta, Parmesan, mozzarella, eggs and parsley are the filling for this layered casserole. Prepare up to 2 days in advance, if desired, and chill covered in the refrigerator until ready to bake. Increase the baking time by about 15 minutes.

For a flavorful treat, saute rice-shaped orzo in butter before simmering in chicken stock. Stir in Parmesan cheese and fresh, chopped basil. Garnish with sprigs of basil to serve.

How could something so tiny be so good. But the peas in this layered salad have a bit of help. There's also crumbled bacon, Romaine lettuce, Cheddar cheese, sliced hard-boiled eggs, and a sweetened mayonnaise sauce. Chill and serve to eight.

This salad has the perfect coleslaw taste. Very, very creamy with a bit of sweet/tartness stirred in. Everything is stirred into one bowl, and then chilled before serving. Makes six generous servings.
