About this Cook
I love to cook. Love it! I enjoy trying out new dishes on my husband (but he makes me not ask any questions about 'how many STARS' until he's had a couple of bites). I used to enjoy cookbooks, but allrecipes has spoiled me... how can I know if a recipe's worth making without reviews and advice??
My favorite things to cook
I like one-dish meals a lot, stir-fries, casseroles, slow-cooked foods, soups and stews. Hearty food, but healthy too. To get my husband more involved in cooking our meals I'm always on the hunt for interesting BBQ recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Both sides of my family (Hungarian & German/Finnish) had ethnic specialities that I remember us always eating when we got together. Now, older members of my family are gone, and I never learned how to make these dishes. It breaks my heart that I can no longer eat my one grandmother's pasties and other grandmother's chicken paprikash (yes, these recipes are online here, but they don't have my families special touches, you know?). I urge all of you to learn your favorite dishes from your mothers, grandmothers, etc before it is too late.
My cooking triumphs
We had both sides of our family over for Easter 2005 (yes, I know this is the easiest holiday to cook for, but I'm relatively new to this!). Everything turned out perfectly, and family Easter at our home has become a tradition. Thanks allrecipes!
My cooking tragedies
I'm a big fan of taking a recipe that sounds interesting, then substituting healthier ingredients for the bad (but oh-so-tasty) stuff. Sometimes this works... sometimes it flops.

Lime-Cilantro Vinaigrette
Beautiful color, and I loved the fresh bite of the cilantro and the tang of the fresh lime juice and vinegar; however, I did not care for the sweetness from the brown sugar at all.

Southwestern Chicken
This spice blend does not require extra seasoning at the table (so some may think it is too salty). We froze bs breasts in this rub then defrosted/marinated for two days before sauteeing. This worked well for those who make meals ahead. Leftovers were also good, served on top of a SW salad.

Grilled Peaches and Cream
Riper peaches would work better for grilling. Ours were firm enough that it was difficult to remove the pit, so 8 minutes on the grill wasn't enough to warm through. We liked the honey and cream cheese topping, but added more honey to our plate. Served as a side to Hawaiian Chicken Kabobs.
