About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Absolutely anything.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I was raised on southern cooking. Don't do a lot of it myself, but still love my mom's cooking: chicken and dumplings, fried apricot pies, homemade egg noodles!
My cooking triumphs
Anything sweet, including zebra brownies, pie and trifles.
My cooking tragedies
Two. When I was a teenager I was making oatmeal raisin cookies, and they called for Crisco. So, I got into our cabinet and pulled out a can of Crisco and put the measured amount in my cookies. I didn't know until after the cookies were baked that I had actually used old bacon grease in the cookies (my mom kept it in an old Crisco container). When I was 19 or 20 I made a stir fry. The recipe called for 2 garlic cloves. Back then I thought a clove was a bulb, so I put in two BULBS of garlic. When my friend bit into my stir fry, he asked, "What happened????"

Crab Stuffed Flounder
Loved it. I, too, doubled the mustard and Worcestershire. Also added about 1/2 tsp. of Old Bay seasoning, and I believe this made a difference. Not bland at all. I did not put the yolk and mayo sauce on top of the stuffing as it didn't sound good to me. I think it was fine without it.

Banana Cake VI
I had the same experience as most others - moist and easy. I followed the directions exactly, including the baking temperature and freezing. I does take more than an hour to bake. Mine took about 1 hour and 20 minutes. Don't overbake. If you are baking more than 1 hour and 30 minutes, there must be something wrong with your oven's temp. I froze it right out of the oven for 45 minutes. I could have left in a bit longer, but I wanted to go to bed. =) Was still slightly warm when I frosted it. Everything worked out well.
