About this Cook
I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, but I am a stay-at-home mom! My kids (and hubbie) expect me to be able to change tires/batteries in my car and then come in and fix a gourmet meal for them! I love to sew - I'm trying to get an at-home sewing business going. Not an easy task, when I am expected to repair the car, cook meals, take the kids to school, pick them up, clean house, do the wash, and get my business going! Plus I am a Keeper Assistant at the local zoo - my mental life saver! Animals are soooo much easier to relate to than kids!
My favorite things to cook
I really like to cook Crock Pot meals, but the family barely tolerates them! The family does not like spicy Mexican food at all, so that's out! And both of my kids are allergic to all sorts of nuts - so I have to watch that stuff! Thank God my family tolerates my "experiments" in cooking. My whole family loves when I cook Chinese! I love to try out new recipes that are "quick" and "easy". On the weekends I take special care to make things that take time and energy and everybody enjoys. AND makes lots of leftovers!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Christmas I make "Aunt Mary's Nut Bread". An old recipe passed down. Unfortunately, my kids are all allergic to nuts! But I can send the nut bread to various relatives and hubbie and I can eat it ourselves. Every Holiday, I make it a point to make cookies that the kids can decorate. Doesn't seem to matter how old the kids are, they love to decorate the cookies. They may not look edible, but the do taste delicious!
My cooking triumphs
Taco Casserole, Snake Alley Noodles, Aunt Mary's nut Bread, ...
My cooking tragedies
Steak Salad - I lost the recipe. "Aunt Mary's Nut Bread" - because I cannot roll the dough correctly! Taking 12+ hours to cook a turkey on Thanksgiving, because one of the heating elements in my oven died!

Greek Pasta with Tomatoes and White Beans
Initially this sounded good...but then I read the so-called reviews. There were so many changes/additions/deletions I didn't know where to begin. Ladies, make the recipe as is. If you feel the need to change things & not just tweek...submit your own recipe. Otherwise just submit tweeks, not major changes! Sorry for the rant, but I get so tired of reading about a wonderful recipe only to find out it's only wonderful if you make the following major changes...

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes
I am about to make this for our Easter dinner. Really sounds good to me. And far better than that cardboard stuff from the box! I'll post later if it was a winner or not with my familiy. But I have a problem with Emily. Granted it was 3 years ago, but jeez, Emily. If you have a better recipe, JUST POST IT!!!! Don't trash another's recipe, just because you do it differently. Your's is a unique recipe, post it. Don't put down or "this is how I do it" type reply! Totally puts me off...if you're so good, post it. If not, shut up! Sorry, but I have a problem with folk who take an original recipe and say it's great EXCEPT...then submit a totally differently recipe. Sorry if I offended, JMHO! Will let you know how this turned out!!

Sweet and Spicy Green Beans
My family said never fix green beans any other way again! They loved this recipe. I doubled the sauce because I find most times it's necessary, not with this one! It was too much sauce, but still good. I also added a couple of splashes of seseme oil, which just added to the flavor. I served these with the Asian Lettuce Wraps, also on this site and had a very satisfying dinner...with no leftovers! Thanks for the new green bean recipe!
