I really like this recipe. But it needs a few changes. First of all there is WAY too much milk, which I am sure is the reason for the mushy mess and longer cooking times people are encountering. Reduce the milk to 1/2 C at the most. Secondly, to increase the volume lost by the milk, increase to 8 eggs. For extra flavor add ham cubes and or cubed breakfast sausage. Layer bread, meat, cheese, repeat. Then pour egg mixture over top. Let sit over night and cook for 1 hour. And whatever you do, DO NOT forget to grease the pan or you will have a gigantic mess. (I learned this lesson the hard way!!)
