Double Chocolate Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
This pie was absolutely perfect. I had never made chocolate cream pie from scratch before and had been dying to try this. I had no problem with consistency or set up; the only reviewer suggestion I used was to add the white of one of the eggs, but I don't think it made any difference. This is a WONDERFUL recipe. Thanks so much.

Decadent Peanut Butter Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2009
This was an easy, delicious dessert. I followed the recipe exactly, using a store-bought chocolate cookie crust. My only complaint is that there was not enough room in the foil pan for all of the fudge topping, so some of it spilled over the sides. Not a fault of the recipe, however. Next time I'll make my own crust and use a springform pan. Excellent.

Bacon Cheddar Deviled Eggs

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2009
Everyone liked these very much. I thought the mustard flavor was a little overpowering (so I may reduce that next time), and I couldn't really taste the cheese (I may increase that next time...). I sprinkled them with freshly ground black pepper and paprika. A nice change from standard deviled eggs. Thanks!

This was simply delicious~~I didn't change a thing. And it was easy to make, too~~a wonderful appetizer.

Chicken 'n' Biscuits

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2009
This got rave reviews from husband and son. I have to admit, I made a couple of changes~~I threw in some leftover chicken gravy with the milk/soup mixture. I added fresh, uncooked mushrooms which cooked up nicely in the oven. I didn't have much cheddar, so I layered some provolone over the casserole before dropping on the biscuits. I also had no Bisquick, so I whipped up "E-Z Drop Biscuits" from this site, and this dish was a winner! A quick and delicious way to use up leftovers.

E-Z Drop Biscuits

These were great. I needed something in a pinch to top off a chicken/casserole thing, and they were perfect~~light and fluffy. I used oil instead of butter, as someone suggested. Easy and fast!

Sweet Potato Biscuits

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2009
These were good~~not fantastic, but good. I added extra baking powder, and used brown sugar and cinnamon to up the flavor. Served them hot with butter and drizzled honey on them as well. The consensus was that by themselves they were pretty nondescript but that the butter and honey put them over the top. I'll probably make these again....

Easy Dinner Hash

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2009
I didn't taste this (not a sausage fan), but this simple recipe went over really well with the men in my house. No frills, just stick-to-your-ribs good. I added some minced garlic; that's the only change I made. I accompanied it with a couple of fried eggs, over-easy...they gobbled it up.

Sloppy Joe Sandwiches

Easy and delicious. I sauteed onions with the hamburger and added a few grains of cayenne to the sauce~~otherwise, I didn't change a thing. Served on bulkie rolls with oven fried potatoes (from this site) and corn on the cob. A great Saturday night meal that everyone loved.

Chicken Makhani (Indian Butter Chicken)

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2009
My son had never had this dish before and loved it; my daughter, who had ordered it in a restaurant previously, thought it was just okay. I think I should have held back on the cayenne, as that dominated the dish. I may try sour cream instead of yogurt next time...the ground cashews were a nice touch.

Grilled Pork Chops with Fresh Nectarine Salsa

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2009
Very nice~~refreshing for a hot summer night's dinner. I had to use a pinch or two of sugar, though, as the nectarines were not as sweet as they should have been. I'll use this recipe again.

Corn and Avocado Salsa

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2009
This was tasty, although I had to make some changes out of necessity: my avocado was unusable, so that was out; instead I used a peeled and seeded chopped tomato, and I used roasted red pepper and then a green bell pepper. It tasted pretty good, although I would have loved to taste the avocado. Next time....

Fried Onion Rings

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2009
Really, really, really good! I used O'Doul's non alcohol beer, and I did add paprika and seasoning salt to the batter, per the suggestions of many. I can see how some kind of seasoning was necessary. But with the added seasoning, they were absolutely delicious--light and crispy. I'd love to try this batter on chicken fingers, and probably will. Thanks for a wonderful recipe.

Mexican Bean Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2009
This was a deliciously different salad. I followed the recipe exactly, and didn't feel that there was too much dressing....I made it for our July 4th barbecue, and those who tried it really liked it. The other beanphobics didn't know what they were missing! The next day we ate it as a dip for tortilla chips, and it was even better!

Slow Cooker Ham

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2009
Every ham I've ever baked in the oven has dried out. This method was so much better--the meat was juicy and flavorful! I added a can of pineapple chunks--next time I'll drain off the juice, as the extra liquid was unnecessary. I might sprinkle some ground cloves in with the brown sugar next time....Very good method. Thanks!

Michelle's Coconut Chicken Curry

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2009
This was pretty good~~but there was just something missing. We have chicken curry at a local Thai restaurant, and the sauce is heavenly~~this sauce lacked the heavenly factor, but was still very good. I chopped up a red bell pepper and used mushrooms and some peas and carrots, as I had no cauliflower. Since I was searching for that sweetness of our restaurant dish, I added some pineapple chunks after everyone had tasted it, and that actually improved the recipe considerably. I served this with jasmine rice. Everyone liked it very much, but agreed that there was just something missing....I will make this again, though.

Spaghetti Salad II

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2009
This certainly had a great combination of ingredients. It was nicely seasoned, light, and refreshing. I liked it a lot--better than other pasta salads I've made. The boys just thought it was okay, though, so I'm not sure how often I'll make it...but I'm glad I tried it.

Chicken and Bacon Shish Kabobs

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2009
I REALLY wanted to love this recipe, and I was so excited to make it~~what a disappointment. Frankly, I'm mystified by all the rave reviews. I followed the marinade recipe to the letter and used some of the method tips from other reviewers: doubled the marinade; marinated chicken and mushrooms separately and overnight to insure flavorful chicken (or so I'd hoped); used regular bacon for balanced barbecuing; cooked on medium heat to avoid dryness. My result~~delicious mushrooms, but the chicken, while tender, was totally devoid of flavor. Even the bacon flavor was missing. If I use this again (and at this point, that's a big "if"), I'll definitely follow the advice of others and add garlic and possibly ginger to the marinade. Also, the recipe cries out for fresh pineapple; the canned pineapple chunks ended up shriveled and puny and were practically an unnoticeable addition. Unfortunately, my guests and I found this recipe rather forgettable.

French Toast Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 25, 2009
A wonderful, quick, delicious recipe. Followed a few reviewer suggestions: added an extra slice of bread, baked in a slightly larger (9x9)pan, increased baking time to 60 minutes. It came out perfectly. Here's one I'll use lots of times. Thanks for the post.
