I was born into a Yankee traditional Irish Family from PA, (although technically I was born in, what is considered a southern state, NC), and Married into a Traditional Southern AL home. So, between those complete opposites, and traveling the world as an army bratt, I have had the oppourtunity to try tastes of many cultures. I loved them all but my favorite by far is from my final settlement, AL. You can't beat the BBQ in the summer, the hearty soups in the winter, and everything in between. with the help of my friends, I have quickly been turned into a southern girl, from my changed accent to my love for college football. But i will always remain an Irish girl at heart with my unbroken traditions; guiness, soda bread, slow roasted corned beef and cabbage, and St. Paddy's day as one of my favorite holidays. La' Sona 'Le Pa'draig!
My favorite things to cook
EVERYTHING!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving!!! My husband's family is southern born and rised for several generations.( my family is all from PA) So, all the women in his family are traditional southern cooks (they remind me of Paula Deen)and thanksgiving brings out the best in all of them. They always say It's nothing without the Collards,Field Peas, chicken and duplins, buttermilk biscuits, homeade jarred jam, and the centerpiece (no not the fried turkey), the Dressin'. And They couldn't be more right, i'm hooked and it'll never be the same without it.
My cooking triumphs
whenever it comes out they way I want it to is what i consider a triumph.
My cooking tragedies
do i really have to say?? lol who hasn't had a few or so.... =/
