About this Cook
My favorite family cooking traditions
I remember being little and helping my parents, mostly my dad, make a special meal like shrimp creole or spaghetti sauce. I got to measure the spices since knives were dangerous (and I didn't even tell them about slicing myself making tacos at day camp). My mom claims to be allergic to peeling potatos (I'm not kidding since she gets CRANKY when she has to) so every big meal we have even though I don't live at home anymore, I come home to peel the darn potatoes. I've asked, and my grandmother doesn't recall my mom having said allergy. I think I might need to develop this one when I have a daughter ;)
My cooking tragedies
When I was trying to impress my boyfriend, I made him chocolate chip cookies at his apartment. I didn't pay attention to his roommate not labeling containers. and I used powdered sugar instead of flour in the cookies. Made a huge mess in the oven and his roommate thought I was a bit daft, but was a great ice cream topping. It must have worked since he is now my husband. Second place for me goes to preheating my mother's oven without removing the tupperware she stored inside while we were getting over an ant problem. Ooops.

Buttermilk Pancakes II
Very good. Biggest complaint is that it makes waaaay more than 12 5inch pancakes. I got 12 pancakes plus 6 4 inch waffles. Took another reviewers advice and started making waffles (which were very good) so I could be done with brunch in time for dinner. But the taste and texture were great!

Easy Focaccia
Very good. Didin't add parm to make it for vegan friends, will if it's just us in the future. Only problem was it really didn't rise well, either the first or second times. My yeast are getting older, maybe that was the problem. I will definitely make again. Went well with bruschetta and pesto dips, or on its own.

Buttermilk Pound Cake II
ohh yeah! I switched up one cup of flour for whole wheat (we are "healthy" here) and used 1 cup brown sugar, 1 cup splenda for baking and 1/2 cup regular sugar and it was delicious. Even after I forgot the baking soda it still was yummy and rose a bit. Will make again and again and. . ..
