Me and the Baby
In The Kitchen With Weston
About this Cook
I am a stay at home Mom. I have become disabled but am hoping to return to work some day. I do love being at home with my two boys ages 1 and 4. I feel blessed that it has been possible to survive on one income. Sure helps eating at home. Plus you know what is going into your childrens bodies. I have always loved to cook. Starting bring my folks breakfast in bed when I was 6. French toast, huevos ranchero, etc. No cold cereal!(lol) I would buy cook books with my allowance when my elementary school had book fairs. My favorite childhood memory is baking cookies with my Mom. I think you are born with this desire to nurish and make happiness in the kitchen. I don't understand it but it does make a home and family whole.
My favorite things to cook
I love making sushi rolls and baking cookies but love cooking all types of food really. I love finding out about new foods to cook that I have never tried before.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grand mother was German and cooked a lot of German dishes but she never shared them with me because I was so young. I did sit in the kitchen with her a lot and remember her making dough for beer rocks. One of the few dishes I liked that she made. Most of the other things were horrible. Especially her cookies. OMG!!! They were so nasty. I think she would just put anything left over in them and they were as hard as rocks. My Mother hates to cook. I didn't inherit my love for cooking. I think maybe it came from my love of art. Cooking is alot like painting and sculpting to me. Bonus is eating it...lol.
My cooking triumphs
One of the few dishes grandma made that I liked were her beer rocks. I would have loved to have her beer rock recipe. I tried to duplicate it several times. The filling was easy but her dough was very unique. One time I got over occupied and mistakenly let the dough rise way to long and bingo, it tasted like my Ga Ga's beer rock dough. That was so cool! A mistake that ended in sucess. I can make a mean risotto.
My cooking tragedies
Probably this recipe I tried from the food network was my biggest disaster. It was an Emeril recipe. These cookies were very time consuming but beautiful so I wanted to include them in my Christmas cookie trays. It was a recipe for stained glass cutout cookies. They turned out gorgous and were very tasty but the next day all of the stained glass part turned to mushy goo. I was so bummed and what a waste of time! Guess you can only make them and eat them all in one day???

Prosciutto Wrapped Melon balls
I don't like it with honeydew melon. Tried it with the cantaloupe like others suggested. So yummy. Guests gobbled them up. You can really play with the presentation. I do a melon ball with a prosciutto bundle on a tooth pick or just sliced in cubed and wrapped in the prosciutto. Minus the honeydew i would give this recipe 5 stars.

Pork Chops Stuffed with Smoked Gouda and Bacon
Made changes because I didn't have all the same ingredients on hand. I love recipes like this that you can take the basic recipe and have fun with it. Thanks for sharing this recipe. The meat came out so tender, flavorful and juicy.
