About this Cook
I designed my own home, AROUND my new kitchen, where I spend most of my time. I love trying new recipes and I have a family that doesnt mind being guinea pigs (thank goodness!).
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy serving up good ole down-home country cookin' the best. Its what gets the biggest raves. But for myself, I love Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. Im in heaven when Im baking up sweet goodies to share with friends and family.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every year my best friend comes to visit me in November and we spend two days making all our favorite cookie and candy recipes. Then we each take half of what the other made so that we have a huge variety of goodies for the holidays. We used to include the kids when they were little. My kitchen was a mess at the end, but I have memories to last a lifetime.
My cooking triumphs
My best cooking triumph was winning a chili cook-off at the office years ago. I made my own recipe, which I call Vermont Chili. It has real maple syrup in it, so it starts out a little on the sweet side when you first taste it, but then the slow burn comes afterwards. Maybe Ill post the recipe someday!
My cooking tragedies
I was a newlywed and knew my hubby loved meatloaf. I'd never made one, so I found a recipe in my cookbook and proceeded to mix it up. To this very day, I don't know what I did wrong, but after the first bite, we literally POURED it out! Ive since found the Rempel Family Meatloaf recipe on this website and Im sticking to it!

Crispy Rosemary Chicken and Fries
As written, this is a very good recipe (4-1/2 stars, perhaps). The second time I made it I followed others' suggestions: Brining, adding lemon juice, Worchester, and substituting onion powder for garlic (personal preference) made this recipe out of this world! 5* for ease, 5* for taste, 5* for texture. The third time I make this I will make more potatoes - we loved 'em! Thanks Sandy!

Blackberry Cobbler II
The suggestion to double the dough recipe is good advice. I used the cinnamon, as others suggested, and felt it was not needed; save it for apple cobbler. I made it in a large iron skillet, which was a quaint way to serve it up, but the pan was so heavy it was difficult to handle. Next time, I will make it in a large ceramic casserole dish. The crust was delish! The berry mixture tasted wonderful. If only blackberries were seedless…. But that's not a fault of the recipe. I will definitely make this again. Great served hot with vanilla ice cream.

Pecan Pie V
This is NOT your typical pecan pie! But WOW! It was great. It's more like a Pecan Brownie Pie. It was a huge hit with butter pecan ice cream. I used the chocolate chips, as others suggested and found it interesting that the women all loved the chocolate, but the men said it would be better without them. Next time, I will look for carmel chips. We all agreed that carmel would be a better choice. This is an easy recipe, and got raves from everyone!
