I'm a lecturer at the University of Exeter, Tremough Campus. My wife, two little girls and I are new to Cornwall and hope to tuck-in to all the great fresh local food - especially Cornish Ice Cream! My secret foody fact is that I've been an allrecipes.com employee!
My favorite things to cook
I can cook a steak dinner like nobody's business!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Since we've been living in the UK for the last 5 years (first Scotland, now Cornwall), we always try to go all out for Thanksgiving dinner and the 4th of July. Though we're not flag-waving Americans, it's fun to share our national dishes with friends in our new home.
My cooking triumphs
My wife and I made beef wellington for Valentine's day last year (we used Gordon Ramsay's recipe from the f-word: [http://www.channel4.com/life/microsites/F/fword/gordonsbeef.html]. It was the best thing I'd ever eaten.
My cooking tragedies
Well, it's not exactly mine though I was party to it. At Christmas one year my dad was making his famous Oyster dressing for the Turkey. It requires a pint of half-and-half and is cooked in bird. Rather than grabbing the carton of half-and-half he accidentally grabbed the egg nog and mixed in the entire pint into his dressing without knowing. Though the turkey was still great, the dressing was perhaps the worst thing i've ever eaten. Oysters and eggnog spices should never combine!
