About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love baking... When I am not working, I spend hours in the kitchen, especially in the months of November and December. While my husband is eager for me to try new things, I tend to steer towards comfort foods and old family favorites. I also like reproducing restaurant favorites and giving them my own touch.
My favorite family cooking traditions
For Christmas, my great grandmother always made Kolaches. Since her passing, it was difficult to get someone else to take on the yearly tradition. After missing them at the breakfast table, I decided to take on the tradition. Although mine are much larger than Grandma's, they are every bit as good as I remembered as a child. My family members rave about them and are thrilled that I have revived a delicious tradition.
My cooking tragedies
When making beef stew and chili for a large church gathering, I plugged two large slow cookers in to the same outlet to let the soups cook overnight. Being efficient, I also decided to run the dishwasher, also on the same wall. Needless to say, the breaker blew and the soup that was supposed to be cooking all night was ruined when I woke in the morning. I had to run to the store and buy new ingredients and start the process from scratch in time for our after-church fundraising meal.

Chicken Cordon Bleu II
Absolutely amazing! The sauce really finished this off nicely. I substituted whole milk in place of the cream, but kept everything else the same. I browned the chicken on the stove top and transferred the skillet to the oven where I baked it for 30 minutes @ 350. My daughter requested that we make it every night!

White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake
This cheesecake is to die for!!! The only changes I made were to the crust... just added more cookie and reduced sugar. I also cooked it in a water bath... a necessity for a good cheesecake. Let it cool completely before you put it into the fridge. I swore I would never use another cheesecake recipe, but this is an excellent alternative. Friends were lining up for this one!!!

Sweet Coated Pecans
Love this recipe! I doubled the batch, but added in an extra egg white. I also used half brown sugar, half white sugar and a splash of vanilla. Tastes better than those nut vendors that are all over the malls!
