About this Cook
24 year old off and on again student (education costs toooo much) who successfully baked her first cake at 8 as a Mother's Day gift. Mother is a professional cook. My entire family cooks and cooks well. Started out cooking soul food as my ideas about healthy living changed so did the way I cooked. I can literally cook any southern dish created but I am constantly looking for new recipes to try and reinvent to my liking. Never uses a box for anything! Motto: First time follow the recipe...second time follow your taste buds.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake...especially homemade pies and bars. Favorite meat is pork...no other meat is so versatile in its flavor. Weirdly enough I love to cook very involved meals.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother and I are in an eternal battle over whose peach cobbler is the best...mine is of course. Also...everyday is Sunday dinner.
My cooking triumphs
Bakes first cake in 3rd grade all by myself...Got in trouble though because I did it without permission...probaly why I still remember. I even made the frosting...and still got in trouble.
My cooking tragedies
Almost set my first apartment on fire by not cooking but reheating A BOX of leftover pizza. Instead of dirtying up a pan I decided to reheat the whole box in the oven. Almost set my p[arents house on fire when I dropped the ovenmitt onto the oven coils and left it there until I carried my cookies to the counter.

Spanish Rice Bake
I've had better from a box of Hamburger Helper! This was bland. I tasted before putting in oven and had to add chili powder, garlic, extra cumin and diced chiles before it had any real flavor. it also needed about a cup more rice. No one really cared for it. It wasn't disgusting just not a dinner meal for me, maybe as a side. It reminds me of the burrito filling at Taco Bell.

Anniversary Chicken I
I CAN FIND NO COMPLAINTS. Excellent dish. Tastes great! Just cover with aluminum foil while baking and the cheese won't burn. For all the people complaining about the color...I've made this twice now and the second time I didn't smother it in the teriyaki and ranch...just brushed it on. Tastes the same and cuts back on the saltiness. Made mashed potatoes on side and used bacon bits, cheese and green onions in mashed potatoes. I've been getting weekly requests for this meal.

Spaghetti Carbonara II
This was good. I thought that it would be similar to the Cheesecake Factory's Carbonara...it was in taste but it was rather dry. After making it, i decided to add seasoned chicken breasts sauteed in olive oil. Next, I added about 1 cup of milk to give it a creamier texture...The pan was finished quickly! It tastes good with or without the modifications!
