About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook seafood dishes and anything Italian. I also like to make desserts for parties.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom is the best cook! Everything she makes, from eggplant parmigiana to roast turkey with stuffing and homemade gravy is the best. She can bake anything, and we hade homemade desserts all the time growing up. It's a miracle that none of us are overweight!
My cooking triumphs
I rarely invent my own recipes, but I am very good at tweaking recipes to make them better. People request my crab dip over and over. I make a very good seafood pasta dish, and everyone loves my pulled pork recipe. I like to take bits and pieces from recipes, add my own twist, and create something different. Anytime my father-in-law asks for a recipe it's my biggest triumph because he was a pro baker and awesome cook!
My cooking tragedies
Too many to list! From undercooked stuff to overcooked stuff to stuff that just plain tasted bad!

Omelet in a Mug
I made this with eggs, cheese, and canadian bacon, and it was very good. I gave it 4 stars because microwaved eggs have a slightly odd texture and the only time this method really saves is a few minutes in the cooking.

Venison Bacon Burgers
These burgers have great flavor. The only thing I substituted was a little onion powder for the shallots because I didn't have any on hand. It's too cold to cook outside so I cooked these in a cast iron skillet - 4 min per side, then finished them in a 425 degree oven for another 4 minutes to make sure the centers were done. It was a great meal with sweet potato fries and baked beans. Thanks!

Venison Pot Roast and Gravy
This was great! I'd only eaten venison in chili and hamburgers so I was looking for a good first recipe to try for a roast we were given, and this was perfect. It makes a wonderful, thick gravy that also was delicious on the roasted potatoes I made as a side dish. I made the grill seasoning using the suggestion in rua's review, and it was great. I will be making this recipe again and also using it for beef. Thanks!
