About this Cook
I am a 44 year old stay at home mom with 2 toddlers. Food has been m passion for the past 25 years, and I just took off the 40 lbs. to prove it! I am always searching for ways to have my favorites foods a more healthy way and this site has been a Godsend!
My favorite things to cook
I really love to bake, but since I have cut out sugar and most flour, I have learned to love to cook more basic foods. I think the art of spice is my passion! I also love to search for what is in season and make the most of in season flavor.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love holiday baking and in the past I try to incorporate a food that will be seen year after year and also give to friends. The Christmas Stollen and lemon curd is one. Christmas cookie exchanges, punch recipes for parties, I like to entertain, so I love to make each occasion feel special with one knock out dish and don't stress the rest. I am currently trying to get my kids involved in simple basic instruction and hope to instill a love and respect for whole foods.
My cooking triumphs
I baked a cake from Cook's Illustrated that was chocolate with a butter cream frosting. It was a LOT of work, but I can tell you I will NEVER forget that first bite. It literally disintegrated into my mouth...it was a slice of heaven.
My cooking tragedies
Meat. Someday I will master the grill, for now, George Foreman is my friend. I dream of restaurant quality steaks and tender chicken breast. It has been hit or miss, I am most confident with chicken thighs!

Round Steak Sauerbraten
I am so sorry to vent on this recipe, but I am SICK of EVERY meat recipe being rated as 4-5 stars and "tender". My meat came out DRY AS A BONE. Am I just missing some elementary understanding where cooking meat is concerned? I hope to figure the out before I am thrown out of the kitchen for good.

Thai Ground Chicken Basil
Easy! I would recommend using low sodium soy sauce or Braggs Liquid Amino (tastes just like soy sauce!) if salt is an issue. I have Asian Fish sauce, which is probably salty on it's own and regular soy sauce is salty. So I will take my own advice next time. That would be my only complaint, if you can call it that!

Stuffed Peppers
This was excellent! I used quinoa for the rice and chicken sausage for the beef, I also used red bell pepper instead of green and I covered with foil. This had great flavor, at least with the sausage!! This will be on regular rotation at our house!
