Cake Balls

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2009
People love these cake balls! They are very easy. The first time I made them I baked a cake and mixed them with homemade frosting and then dipped them in chocolate. The next time I used leftover cake: I took the frosting off the top, microwaved it until it was warm, and mixed it with the cake in a mixing bowl with a mixer. I also dipped these in chocolate. This is a neat way to use up left over cake.

Drunk Deer Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2008
WOW!!! My husband said this is the best chili he ever had! The only changes I made to this recipe was to use chipotle pepper instead of the cayenne and to omit the water. I tasted it before adding the bourbon and it was just OK, the bourbon just adds complexity to the chili; don't leave it out. Thanks for the great recipe!

This is the only bread recipe that I actually bake in my bread machine. It's terrific.

Roast Beef Burritos

This is a neat recipe! I made it with leftover roast beef. It tasted just like the filling for chimichangas. I will be using this recipe with all types of leftover meats. Thanks.

Afghan Beef Raviolis (Mantwo)

Reviewed: Oct. 2, 2008
I really liked this dish. It was quite different. It only took me about 50 minutes to make everything: I started the split peas while the beef was browning, I took out about a cup of the browned beef for the dumplings and started the meat sauce before I filled the dumplings,I cooked the dumplings in simmering water for about a minute per batch. I served it with roasted vegetables: eggplant, peppers, and tomatoes tossed with chopped garlic and olive oil. Very tasty!

Roast Beef and Potato Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2008
This was really good. I wanted a leftover recipe that was different than roast beef and gravy and this fit the bill. I do admit that I used chimichurri sauce instead of the dressing printed and it was delicious.

Great recipe! I spoon some turkey drippings over for a "in the bird" flavor

Tomato Soup I

Cannot be messed up! The first time I made it I only used a 14 ounce can of tomatoes; it was wonderful! I also have used undiluted evaporated milk instead of cream, delicious!

Delicious Gluten-Free Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2006
I made this with the following change, I used buttermilk for the liquid and substituted 1/2 cup montina flour for 1/2 cup of the rice flour. These were so good that even those not on gluten free diets thought they were excellent!

Moroccan Lamb Kabobs

These were very good. I served them with the Qabali rice (boil the rice for only 3-5 minutes)from this site and a cilantro/parsley pepper sauce. I will make this combination again!

Qabali - Afghani Rice

Reviewed: May 22, 2006
The first time I made this recipe I tossed it; the rice was mush, but it had a good flavor. I made it again, cooking the rice for 3 minutes after returning the water to boil. I also skipped making the sugar syrup with oil. I tried that twice and had carmelized sugar in oil both times. Instead after mixing the rice and carrot together with the spices, I sprinkled on the sugar and proceded as written.

This recipe is excellent. I used 2 teaspoons of ground ginger and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon instead of the 1 tablespoon of cinnamon in the recipe. It is deliscious toasted!
