About this Cook
I'm a children's librarian and the mother of 2 girls. My husband is Filipino-American, I'm Jewish American and our home cuisine spans a wide range of foods
My favorite things to cook
Pretty much everything I cook, especially with seasonal veggies from my garden and the farmer's market!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandma's spaghetti sauce and my other grandma's pink applesauce and potato latkes.
My cooking triumphs
Making sticky buns from my mother-in-law's recipe that are almost as good as hers! And the Chanukah bash I throw at work every year--I cook the latkes right at work and bring in lots of homemade cookies and my renowned cheesecake.
My cooking tragedies
I am still trying to master "New York" pizza, bagels and Jewish rye bread, none of which I can get in my current area!

Favorite Old Fashioned Gingerbread
Delicious! I doubled the ginger and cloves--I was using an extra strong cinnamon so I added about 2/3 tsp extra of that as well. The flavor was rich and delicious--you could SMELL how delightfully spicy this was. I used a pan to make little gingerbread man cakes and it worked beautifully. Am looking forward to making this into a regular sized cake and topping it with whipped cream or ice cream.

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies
Delicious, but way too soft. I made them with a butter/oil combo and had to bake them longer & at a higher temp. And even then, they are sticking together in the cookie box! I wondered about cutting the fat and just found virtually the identical recipe to this in my Better Homes &Gardens book. It uses 1/4 cup less butter + baking powder as well as soda. Think I'll try that--healthier that way.

Belgian Waffles
Okay, but not a patch on "Emma's Belgian Waffles" which handles much better and tastes just as good.
