About this Cook
I've just become a grandmother. This event has reminded me of how I've got to get healthy and stay that way. My husband and I have been discussing going vegetarian.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook are vegetables prepared different ways. I love roasted winter veggies, especially when I add tomatoes. Low-fat veggie casseroles are a family favorite.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family looks to me for a big Thanksgiving dinner. I like cooking the main course (turkey or chicken) in a crockpot in order to leave the oven and stove free for special sides. All the guests and family get a say in what else gets served.
My cooking triumphs
My biggest cooking triumph was helping plan and exicuting with the help of parents a Turkey Dinner with trimmings for about 90 Third Grade students and some parents and the teachers.
My cooking tragedies
I made beef broth with clam juice the day before Thanksgiving to serve in my new china broth cups with saucers. I thought it was going to save time but when I slowly reheated it (about the same time as making it) the broth became too salty to eat. I've made it a few times since and love it. I just don't make it ahead of time.

Grandma's Slow Cooker Vegetarian Chili
Couldn't find black bean soup so I used a can of black beans in seasoned sauce (more like seasoned water). Everything turned out well even the two Tbs. of chili powder and I don't like chili powder. I served this with a pan of cornbread on the side.

German Currywurst
This recipe tasted OK, but I won't make it again. I'd rather use a little ketchup than 45 ounces of tomato sauce since I had lots leftover. My husband who lived in Germany for a while wasn't happy and will stick with ketchup and a couple shakes of curry powder.

Cajun Macaroni
This is a wonderful, quick entree. Will make again soon. Going to use my own Cajun seasoning next time.
