About this Cook
I manage a school library, which is just about perfect for me jobwise. I'm married and we have two sons, and my 80something mother lives with us too. I like it when my kids have friends over and they think they are probably going to get microwave bagel bites for dinner and I surprise them with something great. I have and use a lot of cookbooks: faves are Joy of Cooking (natch)and Camille Glenn's Heritage of Southern Cooking (which is wonderful if you get the original, full-length edition). I also love listening to music and I have successfully taken 4 teenage boys to an opera (Rosenkavelier) without having them mutiny.
My favorite things to cook
Flan, Bread Pudding, Chili, Posole, Roast Chicken, Pork Tenderloin, Grilled Steaks, Grilled Asparagus, Grilled Eggplant, Grilled Cherry Tomatoes en Brochette, Steamed Salmon Fillets, Carrot Cake, Tres Leches Cake, Chicken Soup, Okay now I have to go eat something.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Chocolate Cornstarch Pudding.
My cooking triumphs
The first time I made flan & it tasted great AND came out of the mold without cracking. And recently I made a pork tenderloin with homemade adobo sauce that my family completely freaked over.
My cooking tragedies
My family is full of PICKY EATERS but they are all picky in different ways, so it drives me crazy trying to please them!

Cha Cha's White Chicken Chili
I changed a few things. I only added about a Tbsp of the canned jalapenos, and instead of the chicken I bought a good-sized turkey breast, roasted it in the oven, and used the meat from that. (Do not over cook the turkey! Remember it will be cooked some more in the chili.) Also I just passed the grated cheese on the side. I also added some salt. With these changes, and served with warm flour tortillas, it's really great. My youngest had me make it for his 13th birthday party, and it was a big hit.
