About this Cook
I am a 39 year old stay at home Mom of two young children. In the past 2 years we as a family have started to really pay closer attention to what we eat. We try to eat healthy, very little meat, more fish, fresh veggies. We eat lots of higher fiber pastas. We feel so much better and our bodies have thanked us by shedding 30 lbs of my frame and a whopping 50 lbs off my husband. Thank goodness for Allrecipes, it has been a huge part of cooking routine. I've been able to find great recipes and recipes that I've been able to modify to our needs. It works great.
My favorite things to cook
I love to try new things, not always sucsessful, but I like to try. I like making one dish dinners.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandmother always made cranberry salad and I found a very similar recipe and added a cream cheese topping, WOW. It really kicked it up. My family and my husbands has a family reunion every year and we always take a covered dish or two and we are always trying to out do ourselves the next year. It's almost an unspoken, friendly, competition to see who makes the best dish. Mine have been getting better and better every time. One day one of my dishes will be better than the Grandmothers... but we will not speak of these things. ;-?
My cooking triumphs
It's hard to say what are my triumphs, maybe one would be for something I didn't even cook at all. I made and gave Friendship Tea and Chai Tea mix for Christmas gifts. I had so may people coming and wanting more and wanting the recipe. I also had to make a large batch and keep it on the counter for my husband because he love them both. Also even though my family did not really like the recipe, I consider making eggrolls one of my triumphs.
My cooking tragedies
I made a chocolate cake for scratch along with the chocolate icing everything was perfect. The cake cooked perfect, the icing went on perfect... for the first 2 mins. After that it started falling off, melting. I didn't let it cool long enough and the cake was sooo moist. I looked like a chocolate explosion but tasted like heavenly.

Fruited Curry Chicken Salad
I hosted a baby shower and made this recipe. Served it on small squares of wheat pita with a little bit of crisp lettuce... it was a huge hit. I thought I added too much curry but everyone else at the shower just raved over the taste. I thought it was good too. They must have really loved it, there was some left over and people took some home. I was very pleased and will make again!!

Cheesy Potato and Corn Chowder
Oh my gosh this is so good! I thought the combination of chilies and gravy mix would be odd. Oh but to the contrary!! Everyone in my house gives this one a big 5 stars. It was exactly what I was looking for, tastes just like (maybe better) than the corn chowder from the sandwich shop.
