My favorite family cooking traditions
I love when my family gets together and grills. Growing up, my parents grilled steaks every Saturday night. Since I'm out on my own now, I don't keep that tradition, but they still do! I love to get a group of friends together, buy a bunch of different meats, and grill!
My cooking triumphs
Catering a wedding for 150 in a matchbox of a kitchen, in a town I'd never been to, with only one person to help. When you opened the oven door, the door would hit the opposite cabinet. It was horrible! Thank goodness Mama was there to act as sous chef!
My cooking tragedies
I took a cooking class where we had a timed test on soups and stocks. We had to pick a soup to make and get graded on it. I chose to make a leek soup. Unfortunately, I was cooking over a gas stove and people kept walking in and out of the door, so the flame wasn't constant. It didn't turn out well because I kept having to adjust the flame. The flavor was off.
