I have been married to my wonderful husband since 2003 and we have a gorgeous baby girl who was born on her daddy's birthday in 2005. I enjoy cooking, I always have. I grew up in a single parent family and would try to help my Mom out as much as possible, since she worked so hard for us. My little sister is 9 years younger than I am, so it was mainly either myself, or my Mom who did the cooking. My husband and I enjoy camping and hiking on the North Shore of Lake Superior in the Spring and Fall. This year will be different, as we now have our daughter. I have 3 wonderful step children (ages 23,20,17) that I am so happy to be a part of their lives, and they apart of mine.
My favorite things to cook
Any type of meat and potatoes (for my husband who thinks no meal is a real meal unless it is meat and potatoes).
Soups are good, especially here in Minnesota in the middle of winter. I'm not that into baking, probably since I don't have a lot of experience.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making cut-out Christmas cookies with my step children, I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to join in the fun. We all get involved in the baking, and the kids do the decorating. The cannot even fathom not doing this, even at the ages they are getting-by the way, the 17 year old is a boy!
My cooking triumphs
Finally being able to make a killer prime rib roast (thank you Chen from this site!). My husband is a meat and potato freak, so once I made this just before Christmas 2005 and it turned out great, we had it every weekend for 6 weeks straight! But, oh so good.
My cooking tragedies
The first time I made my Grandma's fruit salad for Christmas dinner. I called for canned pineapple, which I couldn't find, so I used fresh. This is a jello based salad, the outcome was not good! It did not set up at all, it was more like jello soup. Oh yuck!
