About this Cook
I am a happily married mother of three wonderful kids. I love to bake much more then cook and have little imagination when it comes to "real food".
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake pretty much anything. I do love soups and stews so I try to make a lot of those kinds of things.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Both of my grandmothers were wonderful cooks each in their own way. I wish every day that I had spent more time learning from them. My father's mother made wonderful chicken and dumplings, roast, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and meatloaf. My mother's mother always had fresh ingredients because she had a huge garden and kept chickens. It was so much fun to check for eggs and dig for potatoes when I was a kid! She also lived way out in the country and hunted so I always loved her battered and fried venison with mashed potatoes and cream gravy. So good!Sliced onions and tomatoes accompanied every meal.
My cooking triumphs
My first holiday meal that was a huge success. I was so proud of myself because everything was so good and my mother said that my Grandmommie would have been very proud! Also, I made several pies for a pie sale at my kid's school recently (with a lot of help from allrecipes.com lol)and they all sold very quickly and nobody died from food poisoning ha ha ha!
My cooking tragedies
When I made a recipe for dinner with friends without trying it out first. It was awful and I was very embarassed. Everyone was nice about it but still.....

Mom's Apple Pie I
This is a good pie, not the best I've ever had but good. I did find that I had to cook it a little longer then what the recipe called for, about 10 more minutes. It also wasn't as liquid-y (for lack of a better word) as I like my pies to be. I will say that I liked it because usually the syrup bubbles out of the pie and all over the cookie sheet and that didn't happen with this pie but it was too little. It's easily fixable and I think next time I will increase the sugar and flour a bit, a 1/4 of flour and a 1/2 cup each of brown and white sugar.I did like the addition of the whiskey, I couldn't taste the whiskey but it added a depth to the flavor. I will make this again but with a little tweaking.

Big Soft Ginger Cookies
These were really good, very moist and a great flavor. The only drawback is they seemed work intensive to me and fairly messy with all the sugar but it could also be that the day I made them I was a little pressed for time! They were worth the effort though.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies
These weren't as good as I was hoping. The dough was easy to work with but the cookies had that flour-y taste that most rolled sugar cookies seem to have. I had a really good sugar cookie this Christmas but the person that made it said it was an old family recipe and wouldn't give me the recipe lol! I guess a good rolled sugar cookie recipe is hard to come by.
